Raise and fall

I don't know much about cars, so I figured I'd ask those who do. My 93 Prelude has been acting up since it got cold out. Whenever I turn it on, the rpms raise to 2000 and then fall to 1000, over and over, until the car either warms up for about 3 minutes, or I put it in to reverse or something. It doesn't happen every single time though. What do you think this could be? Any help would be much appreciated.

Re: Raise and fall

Mine was doing the same thing, the timing belt was loose so I put a new one in and it stopped.

But my prelude definitely acts different in cold weather, I get random RPM jumpss like that and iit makes a ****load of noise (im guess it's the strut assembly/springs) when it has been sitting in the cold and I start drivng. After it warms up, the noises stop

Re: Raise and fall

Thanks so much for that. I'll try it and see what happens.

My car pretty much does the exact same things when it is cold out too.

Re: Raise and fall

Usually it's the idle air control valve(IACV) or the fast idle thermo valve (FITV). If you clean them that usually fixes the problem.
