Valvetrain Experts Cometh!

So....as some of you know, over the winter I will be saving money to buy parts for my H22 head build. The only thing that I'm indecisive on is what valvetrain components (valves, springs, retainers) I am going to go with. Keep in mind this car is daily driven. The four companies I'm torn between are: JGE, Supertech, Crower, and Skunk2. Obviously, four companies that know their ****. I have talked to people that have each of these, and the reasons they like them. One person who has the JGE valvetrain picked it because he watched it get dyno tested for a day, but I don't think watching a valvetrain hold up to 20 dyno runs is a reason to go with it (although I'm not taking anything away from JGE, they are a very knowledgeable and reputable company.) Lots of the big builds in Honda Tuning are using Supertech valvetrains, but once again, just because people with Supertech valvetrains make it into mags, doesn't justify me going with Supertech. The people at Crower certainly know their ****, and I doubt they would release a product that doesn't hold up and perform well. Skunk2 are HUGE players in the Honda/Acura community, and besides their intake manifold and throttle bodies, I have never heard a bad thing about their products. I am most tempted to go with Skunk2 since I am already running their Pro 1+ cams, but obviously, there is no rule stating that all parts of a build must be from the same company.

Basically, I want to hear from people (with experience, preferably) on why or why NOT to go with any of these companies. Thanks guys (and gals).

Re: Valvetrain Experts Cometh!

Thanks man. I have yet to hear a complaint about the Supertech valvetrain components. If they are reliable in a 390+ HP high-revving daily driven H22, they would work for me. Keep it coming guys.

Re: Valvetrain Experts Cometh!

I'm still to new to honda valve train components (havent gotten there in my list of researching)

But 1Badbb6 said that high hp h22 was a DD on the supertech set up. I'm opting out of this poll

I've heard negatives about Crower. Also, usually companies make valves to pair up with their cams. For that reason alone I would go with a company that FOCUSES on Valvetrain components.

Re: Valvetrain Experts Cometh!

I'll probably go with Skunk2 flat-faced valves and Supertech guides/springs/retainers then. There's like a gut feeling I have telling me not to go with Crower. I dunno...But from what I've seen, Supertech valvetrain components are VERY reliable and can stand up to a lot...I've got plenty of time to decide though so time for more research I guess.

Skunk2 and Supertech would by my top 2 choices. Valves don't matter near as much as springs/retainers.

Yeah...I still have lots of research to do though, I'm going to call around to some big tuning places and see what they recommend.

I won't be skimping on any part of the build. This car is daily driven so it needs to be reliable. Should be no problem since it's a Honda though. I was just thinkin' about it, and I'll probably need a new header too...I don't think the Megan piece is gonna cut it.

I don't know where it is from, but my motorsports shop has a nice header for an h22a that I thought was "jasma"... On second thought, it seems like it might be mugen; I think it has a mugen tag just before the flexpipe and a jasma tag on the exhaust manifold.(not the image above, but I would post it if I had it).

this ebay jdm exhaust also lead to my confusion... it has the Jasma plate also, but it is st. may shotgun exhaust, heh.
