SO I FINALLY GOT AN H22

I bought my new motor for 250 i am happy with it, and now i am doing the head gasket, and all the upper end stuff to it. there was a port and polish done to it with bigger cams and AEM tru time pulleys. It isnt jdm, its H22a1. Now i am in the final week of getting everything swapped. Just a few quick things.

Can i use my H23 wire harness?
I am staying with OBD2 so Can i interchange some sensors that are the same from the H23?
Are there any tips or tricks?
what do you recommend for...Head bolts, Head gasket, timing belt. I was thinking all OEM, but its REALLY expensive.
If anyone has a obd2 p13, I need it and i will buy.

Any help would be appreciated.

**UPDATE**
I have the H23 out and dissembled, I pretty sure i did spin a bearing so its done Anyway, some problems that i have came across are, Is there supposed to be burnt oil in the intake? Its not all the way throught its just at the end up about 4-5 inches. Another thing is, Is there supposed me plug that get plugged on the Intake mani? There is 2 holes that i cant figure out what there for. Can i use the H23 injectors? I Have to get a new clutch kit and slave cylinder. Also, how the hell do you get the flywheel off?

Re: SO I FINALLY GOT AN H22

I'm not 100% sure about all the parts you need, but there is a thread around here somewhere. I believe its stickied too.

Use the OBD1. Its more tuner friendly, and it has LESS sensors, and thats really what you want at the end of the day. believe me. No you cant use the h23 ECU because it doesnt allow the use of Vtec. Its made for DOHC non vtec.

ARP head studs, cometic (spelling???) head gasket, and look into the boosted h23 thread (i believe its lilbluelude's boosted h23 thread) and hes puttin down some serious power and he has a aftermarket timing belt, I forget the brand though

Re: SO I FINALLY GOT AN H22

So your saying, i shouldn't just get new bolts, and use the studs instead? But i go with OBD1 then i need a new wire harness right? Isnt that alot of work, running it through the car and stuff? I got a limited budget. IM just confused with the wiring stuff. I just thought it would be easier. Could I use one out of a 5th gen?

i think if you want to go obd 2 then you need to change the oil pump b.c of a sensor. stay obd 1

1st congrats on the H22. your lude is gonna boogy now!! LOL
if i were you i'd go OBD1... you have so much more you can do w/ your ECU and a lot more power you'll get from a proper tune.
as for what you need:
head studs: ARP
Head Gasket: OEM
Timing Belt: Greddy

shop around on all the forums and i'm sure you'll find em cheap.

GOOD LUCK and keep us posted.

^^ Are you sure about that?

H22a1 is a US motor. Not JDM. (JDM motors do not have a number at the end, its just H22a)
If it as aftermarket camshafts, then you might be in a little bit of trouble as far as the ECU goes.
Look on the head right above the exhaust ports. There should be a stamp on the head with the year the motor was made. There should be a arrow between the 2 numbers. Like 9(arrow)3 for 1993. If its 95 or 96 then it might be OBD2.

1996 was the only year there was a OBD2 4thgen. But engine manufacturing can happen a year before that.

Like my H22a1 is stamped 1992, but the motor was not released in the US until 1993. So OBD2 h22a1 could possible stamped 95 or 96.

Re: SO I FINALLY GOT AN H22

Like someone else said, you can't use the H23 harness, as it's not wired for VTEC. I would suggesting running OBD1 since it will save you time and money down the road whenever you need tuning done. YOu can still run OBD1 on a 96 motor, you just need an H22 harness, an OBD1 ECU, and an OBD2>OBD1 conversion harness.

Re: SO I FINALLY GOT AN H22

the motor is a 94. So let me get this straight... I need a p13 obd2, an h22 harness, and then im all set. now o thought some people use H23 harnesses. My car is prewired for vtec. so i thought it was all good.

Sure you can, you just need to run the wires for vtec. Or, as the OP stated, some are prewired for vtec.

you should do a write up on this swap, we have the same year car and i know how confusing and difficult this can be, ive been researching this swap for awhile now, and i still have not found a good wiring diagram nor someone who has done the swap with a write up, if there are other 96ers out there who have done it, cause im pretty sure there are a couple on this site, what are some other things he will need to look into, dizzy stuff, problems fitting the engine in, tips, tricks, sluts, any info is good info. on the swap

Re: SO I FINALLY GOT AN H22

I dont really have a camera, but i will try to do detailed right up and some things i learn as go. but i am having a hard time trying to get the castle nut off that arm. I cracked a socket doing that, back to sears first thing in the morning. But the only thing im still trying to see if Mr_y82 ECU will work. Its an auto, but it must work, i mean i can only take his word. But i really want an OBD 2, because its simple plug and play. I dont want to do any big perfomance mods for a while, so i would like to keep it simple.

Hey can i use the flywheel off the H23??

Yes. The F22/H23/H22 flywheel are the same. You should get a Fidanza 8lb flywheel though.

Ok, youn know the fork that is attched to the shock. You have to take that fork out and then drop the that arm. Its in the manual. is there an easier way to do it?

Re: SO I FINALLY GOT AN H22

I take it you're talking about the upper control arm in the front?

Re: SO I FINALLY GOT AN H22

I got it....But i think i ****ed up the driveshaft. When i went to pull it out, the boot came off and those 3 bearing type things came out.I thought that whole chunk pulled out the tranny?

Re: SO I FINALLY GOT AN H22

So you pulled the driveshaft out, the boot came off, and 3 "bearing type" things came out. Sounds like the "spider" and the 3 rollers came out, which happens when you remove the boot. You already have the Helms (service manual) right? Starting on page 16-6, it shows you how to disassemble/reassemble the driveshafts and the inboard joint (where the 3 rollers go). Just follow the instructions in the manual and put them back together, since you're using them with the swap right?

Edit: If the boot just "came off" by itself, you'll probably need to buy new boot bands (the little rings that clamp around the boot). I think there's 2 on each boot if I remember right.

Re: SO I FINALLY GOT AN H22

Where did you get an H22 with Cams and PnP for $250? Make sure you know the details of this engine before you play with it. If the valvetrain was not rebuilt and you have serious cams, revving too high could float the valves causing interference with pistons. You need an H22 wiring harness and if you have cams then you WILL need a tune. OBD-I is the way to go if you're going to be tuning so stick with that.
