My Engine....

Bogs funny when Im at idle. I heard its a "honda thing" and I shouldnt have to worry...but for some reason...I dont think its supposed to do it.

When Im at idle it idles at 1, then jumps up to 1,400, then goes back to one. Its a steady idle though, constant, not random. I have the F22B engine swap (I think thats Si right? IDK, Im new to this scene) so Im guessing the cams are tuned? Or is it somethin else. Any help would be great!! THANKS!!!!

Re: My Engine....

It's either the FITV (Fast Idle Thermo Valve), or the IACV (Idle Air Control Valve). Mine did the same thing for a while, it's a pretty easy fix. The IACV is bolted to the underside of the intake manifold where it meets the throttle body. I think it was 3 bolts holding it in, not sure, maybe just 2. All you gotta do is take it off, and blast the **** out of it with some carb cleaner, let it soak for a while, blast it some more, let it soak, etc, til you're out of carb cleaner. After that put it back on, then let your car run for a few minutes. It might run ****ty for the first few minutes but after that it will run fine and idle perfectly again. Hope this helps.

Re: My Engine....

Here are the specs on that engine:

2.2L
Bore × Stroke: 85.0 × 95.0 mm
Displacement: 2156 cc
Valve Configuration: DOHC, 16 valves
Compression ratio: 9.3:1
Max power: 166 hp (119 kW) @ 6000 rpm
Max torque: 150 ft·lbf (200 N m) @ 5000 rpm

It came in the SI model. The other engine was the h23a1 which has a slightly higher cr and longer stroke that gives it 160 hp and 156 torque.

I don't think it will be neccesarily bad for your engine as far being critical, but it's definitely NOT supposed to do that, so I would still get it fixed. Nobody likes a rough running Honda. :)

Re: My Engine....

^my h23a1 w/p14 ever did that... so your best bet is to take the above advice and clean it up.

my h22a swap with p13 bounced about 1-200 rpms, but never as if to die... when I got the p28 chipped and dyno tuned the idle was and still is perfect.

you're car is the JDM Si... sold in Japan!

Re: My Engine....

How did you end up fixing it? Did you clean the IACV, egr, etc?

Let us know, so we can use this for future reference. Thanks, and glad you got it fixed!

You can swap the engine for the h22. You can also put the h22 head on the f22 block. Just do some research. Here's some links to get you started:
