more problems

well ive got more problems goin on now...i bypassed my fitv and now its not revving nearly as high, but it is idling and running ROUGH and it feels like i have a considerable loss in power... i tried unplugging and switching vacuum hoses to see if that made a difference but couldnt find any useable combination...

my other problem is my temp gauge keeps saying my car is over heating. when i start it up in the morning (while its about 30 degrees out) it warms up in about 2 minutes or less and it'll eventually run all the way to red. i know my radiator fan doesnt work for one reason or another...but would that really cause my car to overheat so fast? no matter what speed im going? i checked all the radiator hoses and the one running to the top is hot but im able to grab it and hold it without any real discomfort and the one running from the bottom is warm but a considerable difference... also im able to put my hand on my valve cover without cooking my hand....is my temp sensor possibly just junk? should i be freaking out? haha

Re: more problems

ok i found out why it was idling so rough....one of the plugs on my distributor got knocked out...plugged it back in and were good to go....now im idling at 2500 rpm again. my throttle cable is not pulling it open, its not even taught, and im getting barely any suction out of the hole the fitv was pulling, certainly tons less than what was earlier.

now i have ANOTHER problem...after all of this im now throwing a cylinder sensor cel....what does that mean?

included, heres a pic of my vacuum hoses going into my intake...maybe one is crossed that you guys would

Re: more problems

i would replace your t-stat then.that could just not be fully working properly. when you car is fully warm then both hoses should be close to the same temp and not able to grab and hold.

just disconnect the negative battery cable to reset the ECU. it might of just thrown it cuz of the plugs being out.if there is a problem then it will throw the code again.

Re: more problems

my buddy rerouted the cooling lines heading into the tb and they were all routed back into the block or thermostat...i followed this guide http://92lude.com/idle_air_control_bypass_mod.htm on how to bypass the fitv, and it ran ok untill i drove around a little while with the plug unhooked and then the idle jumped right back up again, and now with the plug back in it still wont go down

Re: more problems

also while i was doing that, i looked at the tb and i noticed that the butterfly is not completely verticle...it has a slight lean to it...i assumed it was supposed to be that way as i could push it closed any further...is it supposed to be completely verticle or should it have a slight lean to it?

Re: more problems

btw just because I'm here I thought I would add ...

My grandfather has a 99 civic coupe, his fans didnt work (simple switch was all it took to fix it) and his car was overheating really bad. It would work on and off, but the one day it just shiit out, and it spewed coolant all over the place. I'm not sure on a prelude, but I know his civic was a mess.

Re: more problems

you might want to just take off the whole TB and just clean it out. cuz there are a couple small holes that like to get clogged with carbon.

Re: more problems

well...figured almost everything out....the throttlebody was stuck open...had to use an allen wrench to adjust the screw to let it close all the way. thats why it was still revving high. and the cylinder sensor is going off because my exhaust cam had skipped a tooth, so i gotta do something about that still....but im still overheating apparently...i replaced my thermostat, and it still says im overheating....the hose coming into the top of the radiator is hot...but not to the point that i cant touch it...and the hose coming from the bottom is usually ice cold... and i can put my hand on the valve cover after turning it off while it was in the red and not hear my skin sizzle or anything lol...i did find two acorns (wtf) in the hose while replacing my thermostat...could those be making the sensor think its hotter than it actually is?

Re: more problems

Re: more problems

comon guys any ideas? i really dont wana destroy my motor driving around with it overheating constantly....the bottom rad hose is always cold and unless i drive it for a good 15 miles it doesnt seem to have any pressure in it...its got a brand new thermo in it so it cant be that...and we did find some acorns in that hose...could some have gotten into the radiator or something and be blocking it? what are some other things i can check to give a better idea on whats going on?
