final drive

i tried looking but couldn't find any thing really on final drives for the h22 transmission i want to know anyone has had any experience with them. if so is it worth buying, would it really add torque and acceleration to every gear.

Re: final drive

yes it would make your car accelorate faster and kill your mpg. Gearspeed has one they sell but imo its not worth the cash (you could spend the money else were and make more power.

Re: final drive

If your prelude is your daily driver (which 99% of the people on here make it a DD or it was/will be) then you can spend the money better on different upgrades.

If your car is going to see a lot of track time, whether its AutoX or Strip, I'd say that a higher final drive ratio is a must. It will make your top speed a lot lower, but getting up to your top speed A LOT faster.

Re: final drive

i was looking at the mfactory final drive set does anyone have any experiences or opinions about them. I was leaning towards it becuase i was going to have other work done on the transmission itself, i have a clutch and flywheel waiting to be installed and im going to have a quaife lsd installed as well so i figured i might as well take it to the limit and get a final drive. If i wasnt going to put in a final drive what else should i spend the money on? I know the gearing gets lower but how many mpgs are we talking about losing.

Re: final drive

Well in 5th gear our cars already cruise at 4k when doing 80 on the highway, i would assume that with the new final drive it would kick it up to around 5-5.5K and that would probably end up being a 5,6,7 mpg loss

You would not lose any mpg during city driving, you may actually gain 1-2 mpgs, but on the highway I'm going to have to agree with 93, you may lose up to 6 or 7 mpg.

LSD is a must. It will be one of my upgrades when I start building my lude up for performance.

Re: final drive

^an h22 can spin up to 160-70ish or more (esp if tuned) without much trouble if you have enough space, haha. if you plan on driving this car often it would be a mistake to replace the final drive, IMO... might be badass to drive, but too damn expensive.

I have the JDM M2B4 (LSD) and I know you will love the aftermarket LSD, clutch, and flywheel.

oh yeah, don't forget polyurethane bushings all around.

Re: final drive

yea thats in the plans im looking at an energy suspension master bushing set cause honestly i dont even know who make bushing kits for the prelude beside them. I am also trying to look for motor mount inserts but cant remember the name of the companies that make them.

Re: final drive

I have ES... prothane makes some good ones too, but the ES are as good and cheaper. get the trailing arm and sway bar bushings too, they don't come in the master set.
