Lol, do I have a governer on my car? helpz plz!

Hey everyone,
so the other day I'm minding my business cruising down the 101 here in So Cal, when this guy with his girlfriend pull up next to me in an S2000 and then stomps on it.
Naturally I never expected to win a race with an S2K, but my 4th gen lude has an h22 drop, intake, exhaust, and some other work done to it so it puts out around 230hp... We were on a pretty clear stretch of road and I flew past him going about 105 when he was cruising at about 95 waiting for me, then he starts catching up and till about 115mph we are almost tied, then all of a sudden my car bogs down and I guess the gas cuts off? I was only at about 5200rpm at the time in 5th gear... and I got scared as ****, i thought I killed something, but as soon as I came down to like 110mph, the gas cut back in and I could get back to around 115ish...

bottom line: WTF? why is my car topping out at a little under 120mph, I know it can go faster, and the engine wasnt even redlining yet.

THanks ppls!

yes it does if you have a JDM h22 with the jdm p13 ecu. Next time use the search button this has been covered many times before. Oh and before you ask yeah you can get rid of it for cheap its called an Apex't rev speed meter or go to a junk yard and get a usdm p13 ecu out of a 93-95 vtec prelude

It's your car's way of trying to save your life. Driving that speed on a public road is dangerous, stupid and illegal for a reason.

Where does the rev limiter go. On the dash like a vtec controller, in the bay, etc.

You could use a USDM P13 from a 96 also, not just 93-95.

isnt' the point of using pre 96 that it'll be OBD1. so not sure he would wanna go w/ the USDM p13 from a 96.

by all means correct me if i'm wrong. just pretty sure i read about it a while back

I don't think we were talking about converting to OBD1, but I do know that the USDM P13's do not have speed limiters, and that's what he's wanting to get rid of. No argument that the OBD1's are "better," seeing as they are better to tune.

Funny how we police officers on here get our admissions here on the internet. Now if you can just give me your licence plate number we're all done here.

Na just kidding but serious quit this racing on the street you know how cheap it is to run test and tune at your local tracks? Prove it there,,, no more said

Only if every city had a track! would that happen
Most people dont live with in a resonable driving distance to the track
plus try getting every one together, its a hassel.
I dont race i know its conquences, I have paid dearly out of my pocket and body wise but i know why racing on track dosnt happen as it should
I seen a integgy get busted sat night for street racing

Umm no you can not man the 96 ecu is ob2 and if the car its self is obd1 then it will not run right or start (the harnesses are set up different) so NO the 96 ecu will not work.

To the poster that asked about the rev speed meter it goes on your dash like a safc/vafc it also has a shift light thing that is baller here is a vid of what it looks like in use in my car

btw that is 35d gear spinning in my car lol.

My bad. But it would work with an OBD1->OBD2 conversion harness. ;)

Re: Lol, do I have a governer on my car? helpz plz!

Hey, thanks all for the responses, I was just curious if there WAS a rev limiter or if my car had some serious issues... Not planning on going over 120mph anyway, so I'll leave it be...
As far as the concerns of my speeding on public roads go... yeah, its bad, I don't do it too often and it was just to see how fast my new car WOULD go, in the middle of the night. I live in "suburbia" good luck finding a junkyard or track within 50 miles of my house... I get pulled over because my car looks too "inexpensive" for my neighborhood...

But yeah, basically I stick to the canyons anyway so I'm not a big speeder...
