Autocross question

Ok i just found out that there is a place a couple towns over that does autocross threw out the year... so needless to say im estatic.... i've been wanting to get into autocross for a very long time, but anyway here is my question, if i were to start getting my car ready for autocross would i be better off to ditch my 5 speed for a auto w/ a shift kit? cuz thats what my dad seems to think

just so everyone knows its a 2ws,
Thanks,
Marshall

Re: Autocross question

auto isn't really any better for auto-x. simply becaues when you let off the gas it shifts into the highest number gear it can. and it takes that extra second to downshift when you're back on the gas. STICK WITH 5spd. you can choose the gear while you're braking and heading into a turn.

Re: Autocross question

The four speed autos area also geared notoriously high, not good for something like autoX (or for anything else for that matter) where short bursts of accelleration are required.

Re: Autocross question

I would stick with the 5 speed. (if it not broke don't fix it)
Because I notice some torque converter slip and lag sometimes coming out of corners. If you do have a Auto I would recommend the 1 and 2 gear lock outs over D3 or D4. The gearing all depends on the course, some courses might be slower than others. Slower ones favoring the Miata's and the fast ones favor the more powerful cars such as ZO6's and Porsche Cayman's.
You could have a course where you are stuck between gears. Unable to get in to 2nd and accelerate before the next turn.

Tires > Suspension or brakes.
But
Driver Skill > Everything

I also recommend for Novice's to walk the course at lease 4 times and have a official ride along for a run.

exactly. nothing beats driver skill. i was beating heavily modified (engine/suspension) cars on my stock AUTO lude in an event recently.

but you already are lowered so that will help, just don't tell them. by the way, when you lowered your car, you did get shocks right?? you don't want to be pushing your car to hard lowered on stock shocks, you'll probably blow them.

check all your fluids make sure they're topped off. make sure you don't have any visible leaks, they won't let you run if you do. make sure your tires are have the correct pressure....

Re: Autocross question

alot of people put higher than normal tire pressure into their tires also to prevent the tire from rolling.
