Sick Prelude. :-(

Getting hard to start when cold. Losing power. Possible head gasket? 1992 Si H22A swap motor. No signs of it overheating lately.

Re: Sick Prelude. :-(

No check engine. Recent (few months) Ignition and fuel tune-up. Haven't had a chance for a compression test because it just started recently. Umm smelt rich last time i checked. I hope it's just a fouled spark plug. It runs off ZFR7F-11 Plugs which is 1 heat grade colder.

Emmmmm

Is oil seeping though the valve cover and coating your plugs with oil?

Re: Sick Prelude. :-(

Will it throw a code if it's losing compression? Getting ready to hook it up now.

Re: Sick Prelude. :-(

Cylinders 2 and 3 are low on compression. I Added oil in the cylinders to see if the compression would come up, but no use. Any Ideas?

Re: Sick Prelude. :-(

Well... It's my friends car.. so I'm trying to help him out. As far as I'm going. I'm probably gonna pick up a Chassis for around $1000. Chassis is in great shape, tranny is good. Motor has hole in block. Think I can find an H22A or H22 series motor for around ~$1000?

Re: Sick Prelude. :-(

Lol... I wish I had all the time in the world... I can only use mom and pops car for so long >.< ... So I'll probably pick up the chassis and sell off the old engine as metal and probably keep or sell the good head. It's the H22A. How much can the head normally sell for?

piston rings are shot.

time for a rebuild or engine swap.
go on craigslist and you can find H22's for around 700 if you look around, and f22/h23's for < $200 if you look around.

Re: Sick Prelude. :-(

Well here's the deal... My buddy was going to sell me the car. But as of now it's got engine problems. So he isn't going down on the price which is $2k. So... My other option to try and have a car within 2 weeks is to go and pick up a broked motor 93 Si with a very nice body for ~$1200. No electrical problems and nice rims with new tires and A/C compressor, And then toss just a running motor in it unless I can find a JDM H22A for less than ~$1000

Makes me sad because I just sold my CB5 to get this car.

I know that, but the seals that go around the spark plug holes tend to leak and the oil will make it down into the cylnders thats what i was getting at

Re: Sick Prelude. :-(

Anyone know of using the JDM engines that are shipped from Japan or the ones from Ebay?? Those ones have nice warranties on them. Do you know if they like tear off or cut the harnesses?

Re: Sick Prelude. :-(

Most of the time they will say right in the listing if the harness is there or not

www.tigerjapanese.com -- these guys seem real reliable and sell quite alot, and the assembly you buy comes with pretty much EVERYTHING you need, try checking them out

Other then that, there are a couple things that can cause low compression like that, not just rings, but either way you are still looking at a rebuild or new(used) engine...

Sorry homeskillet - best of luck to ya!

How low is the compression?

Adding oil will bring the compression up if you have ring issues.. Sounds like a valve problem with the little information you provided. Could be needing an adjustment or bent/burnt valves.

I would love to find an h22 anywhere for 700! Oh yea, :sad6: but it doesnt seem like a ring issue at all..
