I need just a little more help

Well i have been searching and thinking for a week about what i want to do. I spun a bearing in my engine so its that time. MY PLAN is to swap a h22 is her and keep my h23 and eventually build it and turbo it. Now i know the motor im gonna pick up from HMotors. I am having a hard time trying to find info about the wiring. Now will the harness that comes with the engine, match with my car? If i buy a obd1 harness how can make it work with obd2? I dont want to deal with the switching, I just want to stay with obd 2. can i just use a h22 out of a 5th gen? Or do have to stick with the 4th gen one? Basically what im trying to do is make a factory vtec. No major mods besides exhaust and CAI.
Thanks you

Re: I need just a little more help

Going H22 just to swap back to H23 is a helluva lot of extra work with no real reason. You have to worry about conversion harnesses, etc, and all will need to be removed when you go to drop the boosted 23 in. Not to mention two drop in sessions, and they aren't fun at the best of times.

My advice would be to get a second H23 from HMO and build that one, then drop it in when it's finished.

+1. Engine swaps suck. I had to do one with my old car and it was LAAAME. Try to do as few as possible lol.

Re: I need just a little more help

i <3333 engine swaps. i got my F22 + tranny in my car in about 8 hours, by myself.

if you wanna build the current H23 for boost, you might as well save some dough for that and find an F22 for cheap since ppl basically throw them away.

Re: I need just a little more help

well I bought another lude today. I payed 450 for it and it needed a radiator. So i just swapped the one out of the 96. Its nice now because i have a daily now, and can work on my 96. So i thought i would just buy a h22 around tax time and just build the hell outta the h23. Do i have to remove the harness before i pull the motor, or can i just pull it with the motor? I have everything unplugged and all lines undone. Only thing left is to pull the shafts and take the bolts out of the mounts.

Re: I need just a little more help

well you could just put a h22a4 out of a 5th gen and it should go right in no problems, but it might be a better idea to just save your money since you now have a DD and build the hell outta that h23 and boost!!!!!!

Re: I need just a little more help

the trannies should also work, i'm pretty sure they're all interchangeable. The ecu should be the same and all. 96 is when they started OBD2 and they also got the h22a4 so i would imagine its safe to say it'd work

The red top is the JDM H22A Type S. I'm not sure if your from the states, but it wasnt available in the USDM. Its expensive and rare, but I hear its well worth the money. If your going to build a motor, just get a h22a1 or a4. and h22/h23 trans are interchangeable with the motors.

Incorrect. The H22A1 that came in 1996 BB1's is OBD2.

No. 5th Gens ahve the H22A4. USDM VTEC Preludes have the H22A1. JDM VTEC Preludes have the H22A.

Yes, you get the ability to rev pretty high with VTEC thanks to the H22 head, plus the extra displacement with the H23 block. Every bit counts.

Re: I need just a little more help

except the stock H23 block/rotating assembly is not balanced to 8600 (or w/e it is) like the H22 is, so simply throwing an H22 head on an H23 and thinking you can rev to 9 grand is a very, very dumb idea.

i was emphasizing the fact that H23's do not SAFELY nor RELIABLY rev as high as the H22's without some serious modification being done. so if someone who suddenly heard of this frankenstein motor for the first time just now thinking they have an H22 just because they have an H23Vtec and redlining @ H22 redline, than they deserve whats comin.
