getting ready to buy an exhaust...

I was choosing between an apexi ws2 exhaust system or have a 3in. custom catback pipe made then buy a 3in canister style muffler for my 1992 prelude. I found this muffler that comes in two colors.. silver and powder coated black. My car has got an H22a engine swap done to it and so far the only thing i have replaced is the intake(AEM V2). What should i get? Oh and i am planning to go turbo when i come up with the funds then get it tuned.

3in is way too big, i know people with vetts that use 3inch, if your not running boost 2.25 if you got boost 2.5, there is no need for 3 inch exhaust, no need, to much blackpressure.

Don't you mean not enough back pressure?

http://www.hondacivicforum.com/forum...ead.php?t=3064

Bigger pipes = reduced back pressure
Smaller pipes = more back pressure

You want to go for a "exhaust velocity" setup. Putting 3" will take the back pressure away, but your exhaust "velocity" will be certainly decreased. You need to have a close to zero back pressure with high velocity exhaust pumping out. If you plan on going turbo and want to just do it once, 2.5" would be ok to run beforehand. You will lose bottom end torque but have some gains in the 5k+ range.

If you run 3" right now, you'll have a higher chance at burning up your valve because you will probably burn too lean in that case.

Edit:

Example. I put a kerker exhaust and pod filters on my 650cc bike. It reduced the back pressure, and still has good velocity of exhaust flow. But... It was burning lean because the Air to fuel ratio increased. More exhaust flow and intake meant more air = leaner burn. It was burning too lean, so I had to increase the size of the jets in the carbs to balance out the Air to Fuel ratio.

so all in all, You don't "need" back pressure, you just need to have a good exhaust flow. Huge pipes are going to slow the exhaust flow. Think of a hose. Shoot water out of a 1/2" hose. It comes out faster than it would a 1" hose.

you can stop posting misinformation now. mmmkayyy??

if you're 200% positive you're going FI, get the 3". but don't bolt it on UNTIL you go FI, cuz you'll loose alotta power and it'll sound ridiculously obnoxiously loud and stupid on a NA car.

your right and wrong. I read alot of the n/a build threads on hondatech and some of the guys made more power with 3inch on there n/a cars with a proper head on the cars. Oh and the loud thing can be chilled out with the right kind of resinator (vibrant makes one hell of one)

yea, thats on NA motors. but he said he's only got an intake on his H22, and if he threw the 3" exhaust on that, i'm 99.9% positive he'll loose a sh1tload of power which is why i told him not to, cuz he said no mention what-so-ever of building his H22 for NA.

+1. I agree. If you know for sure you're going turbo, buy it, save it, put it on when you do your turbo build. You'll lose power if you put it on your car now.

Re: getting ready to buy an exhaust...

So i wasn't misinforming?!? Well at least my logic makes a little sense. I would just make sure you have good exhaust velocity. +1 on it being Uber loud with 3" straight pipe. I would def get a resonator and a decent muffler/canister. Go for a deep throaty sound. Instead of the overly common fart cannon sound that comes out of the back end of many Civics all day long.. lol
