5 lug swap (and other stuff) done!!!! -- Kinda---

Well fellahs the work is kidna done on the car.

I got the coilovers/tokicos in. and they're working out fine.

The Legend caliper upgrade though, I just got done doing the conversion, brand new nice brake pads etc...

I bleed the system, but for some reason I still dont get a nice harsh stop.
I've pretty much gotta push the pedal down to the floor for it to stop completely.

Its not floppy, its pretty resistant, just goes all the way to the floor.

I really dont like that feeling, theres no feeling of confidence in the pedal at all like that.

Any advice on how to overcome it? I really dont like driving around like that. The stock brakes felt much better in comparison.

My other problem is that with the 5 lug conversion we have to put washers between the axle nut and the hub, but what it makes the axle nut stick out too far. and I can't get the honda cap over it on the front wheels.

I gotta find a way to get around that cuz i hate how it looks.

Anyone have any ideas?

Here are a few quick snaps--- I gotta take it get the alignment done, and I'm thinking about paying someone to check my brake work cuz I really hate that lack of confidence in the pedal. I did legend brakes so that i could feel that "bite" and i just dont right now.

yeap thats what i did.

then again it was 4am and it was the first time i ever did it so perhaps I messed up some where?

I've been looking around online and asking questions to people who've had this done, and they said that bleeding the legend calipers are hard. (even though I swaped the sides to put the bleeding bolt up top)

so they suggested I get it bled with a vaccume line like at a shop.

----

So i took it to tires plus (right across from my office) this afternoon at lunch for them to do an alignment on it. I purchased like a 3 year warranty from them or something so they do it as many times as I need them to for 3 years.

Anyway I told them about the brake issue and they said that my problem is beacuse my ABS is not functioning.

According to the dealer from a previous visit to them, they said that the ABS modulator wasn't functioning and tahts why the ABS light is always on. I didn't wnana pay them a grand for the new part or the rediculious labor, so i said ok and just took the car home. who needs the ABS anyway right?

Well I had to cut off the ABS sensors on the back two wheels durring my swap beacuse the 4th gen abs Sensors dont work with the 5th gen HUBs.

So aparently tires plus saw that and said that my lack of functioning ABS is the reason the pedal is so soft.

Does that make sense to anyone? I didn't think that would cause that, just figured the ABS itself wouldn't kick in but that the pedal feel with the brakes itself was independent of that?

I dont know how the system works in the 4th gen so i'm willing to listen to anyone who will enlighten me.

They're nice guys over there and they didn't want to bleed them (charge me for that) if they didn't feel it necessary. but I asked them to do it anyway because I'm not very confident in my performance of doing it myself last night.

So desipte thier opinion I still asked them to re-bleed them for me and I guess I'll see where I am when the dust settles.

I can't say I didn't notice an abnormal pedal before swapping the calipers, the brakes always felt wierd, but in a different way.

Before the conversion they felt extra stiff if anything, not normal, but more stiff while after the converion they feel very loose.

So we'll see how it feels on the way back from the shop.

I'll keep you guys updated.

I'm just curious, is there any performance reason for the 5 lug swap? or is it all for looks?

could I put washers on the studs up against the HUB? (before the Wheel?)

That should push the wheel out past the axle just enough for me to get the H Cap.

Is that safe?

couple of pics of the issue:

hell even if i could find a thicker cap that would work---

i wouldn't use washers but you should be able to find a 1/4" aluminum spacer plate and that should work fine, as long as you have plenty of threads on the studs showing after you put the wheel on, looks like you have plenty of room under the fenderwell to space them out a quarter inch!

would something like this work? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ALUMI...mZ370089096497

and how safe (or not safe) is it?

Re: 5 lug swap (and other stuff) done!!!! -- Kinda---

im not sure exactly where but im sure you can find them, and there isn't anything unsafe about them as long as your wheel studs are long enough for you to get the lug nut on compleatly, if theres not you could always switch to some longer wheel studs but your stock one's should have plenty of length on them... ill look around and see if i can find some spacer plates

those one's you posted off of ebay would probally work well too but i wouldn't get 1/2" then you would deffinately need longer studs, if you go with 1/4" you should be fine with the stock studs, thats if 1/4" will give you enough room to get your center caps on

1/4 inch would definitly be enough.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/_Car-...=p4506.c0.m245

6.5mm = .26 inches

that should be perfect.

are you sure this is safe?

i haven't had any of my friends have problems with them and most of them are running them on z71s and toyota 4x4 pickups so they can fit wider tires without having to worry about them rubbing... i would keep bumping the thread though and ask on some other forums or see if you can find anybody thats had any problems with them.... i would trust them on my car..

my buddy put half inch spacers on his maxda mx6 because he had wheels that were way to wide and kept rubbing. the spacers are meant to push the tire out so they should be perfectly safe. Also where did you get the rims?

I have an s2000. so I just used those two front wheels and I bought a pair of replicas on e-bay.

I've got aftermarket WORK wheels on the s2k.

After doing a little research on this, I've found that anything over 5mm will need to have extended lug studs.

If i'm going to go with extended lug studs i'm gonna go much wider not just 5mm. I've got my eye on the H&R 15mm spacer set, and a set of ARP extended studs.

I really dont want to ahve to replace the studs though, that **** was such a bitch with just replacing the ONE that I needed to do when I was doing my 5 lug swap.

I just dont know if 5mm is going to be enough.

I think what I'll do is get 5mm washers and put that on there just for a test fit. ( i wont drive the car with the 5mm washers) just put them on there followed by the wheels and lug nuts just to see if that would give me enough clearance to put the wheel caps on.

I thinkt hats the best way of 'testing it" cuz right now I can't eye ball 5mm enough to see if its gonna be enough. I'm also probably going to grind downt he inside of the cap too, that'll probably give me one more mm right there.

yeah i would test it out with the washers first before you bought them, im thinking 5mm will be enough, thats not too far off of a 1/4 inch only like 1.3mm

As far as the brakes go mine were doing the same turned out to be the master cylinder, like new now. I must have bled that thing 5 times wondering what the heck I was doing wrong.

Re: 5 lug swap (and other stuff) done!!!! -- Kinda---

did you replace it with a prelude master cylinder?

I've been consdering sourcing a LEgend master cylinder/brake booster.

figure they would do a better job since they're made for legend calipers no?

I replaced it with a Prelude one, ive never heard of anyone using the legend one. I don't know if it would be any better they are both heavy cars so the stopping power should be close. Anyone know for sure?

The washers would have only served the purpose of spacing them out for a test fit. I wouldn't use them permanently or even drive on them.

I decided today though, that I'm willing to replace the studs, I know that I probably should have done them anyway as mine didn't look to be in the greatest shape ever.

So since i decided to do it, I said screw it and decided to go with 15mm spacers. should push the wheels out a little more flush with the body which is good beacuse I never thought the front s2k wheels were very wide to begin with.

So, H&R 15mm 5x114.3 spacers that come with new studs will be in UPS 3 day air tomorrow. Should have em' in by the end of the weekend. cannot wait to see the difference they make!

As for the brakes issue, using the legend booster/master cylinder was only a thought. what do you all think about using an NSX brake booster? or what aftermarket options are there?

Just throwing out ideas.

hey did you ever figure your brake problem?
if not my guess would be the master cylinder, swap it to the legend one.
