Icon5 New (Old) 92 Si... any suggestions?

I just got this 92 Prelude Si a couple weeks ago. Right now it's a piece, but I just replaced the left taillight and I bought some corners yesterday. It needs a paint job, desperately, but I'm not sure where I want to go with it yet. The guy who had it before tried to do a custom paint job OVER the original one with primer black, and now it comes off if you rub against it too much. The stock rims on it are in nice condition, and I think I'll go for a custom paintjob on them.
My main issue right now is that somewhere down the road, somebody took the entire stock stereo/lighter system out and hotwired in an aftermarket cd player. Great on one hand, except that now there's a gaping hole in my console, and the cd player sits right on the shaft going into the transmission.
So my question is, what is a good way to fix that hole? The idea of making it into a cupholder (since the original one is gone) won't fly, so how do I fix it? And I know I might be naive, but is there any way to UNhotwire the cd player?

if you're good with working with fiberglass, you can make a nice "faceplate" or cover.

is the radio wiring harness still intact? or is that hacked to bits?

The harness is busted. So I just bought an aftermarket harness online... Good idea? I mean, at least, will it work? And I will post some pictures...

Re: New (Old) 92 Si... any suggestions?

well there aint nothing wrong with a project! I'm all for it haha..but man to be honest the body itself looks like its in great shape..just needs to be repainted! There ain't nothing sexier than a white lude either so you're in luck! As far as the radio..you may be able to just wire in the after market harness. Its hard for me to tell in the picture..I am no a/v expert for sure.

Do you have all the interior pieces? Just ones hacked up? You could find replacement pieces from a part out and then just get an aftermarket radio adapter that is made to fit and look smooth.

Re: New (Old) 92 Si... any suggestions?

go to your local junk yard 4th and 5th gen preludes are really hard to come by but when you do find one the whole console is only held in with a few phillips head screws should only cost 20-30 bucks and any car audio place has kits where the atermarket cd player slides right in and it fills all the voids and they look great.

Re: New (Old) 92 Si... any suggestions?

Damn that looks like a mess! Check craigslist for 4th and 5th gen partouts as it was previously addressed that finding ludes in the junkyard is well nearly impossible. if you're looking for the interior not to look like ****, that might be your best bet unless you've got a great deal of cash to buy original equipment. That hole looks like it might fit two cd players...do you smoke? maybe you could find a model with an ashtray on craigslist as well. lol

Re: New (Old) 92 Si... any suggestions?

I appreciate all the input!

Here's an update though:

As stated in my newest thread, the H23 is giving me crap about a cracked rod, plus the auto transmission sucks balls. I actually did finish up the console, which was nice until this. Driveable, but only with the risk of blowing the motor.

I REALLY wanna do an H22a swap with a 5 speed...

Re: New (Old) 92 Si... any suggestions?

start looking for new interior parts and then move on to the body and just start bringing this piece of prelude back to a respectable car that it once was.

Re: New (Old) 92 Si... any suggestions?

as for paint... I have a secret.
go to ur local TSC or farm supply outlet.
buy some "Low Gloss Black Implement" paint (it's made for tractors)
get the reducer, and a slow to medium catalyst... should only run about $40 for everything.
Reduce the $#!+ out of it so it looks like water and spray thru a gun
It will go on looking wet... but will flatten in a few hours.
and get this... You can shoot clear over it and will look like a 2 stage professional job for under $100
