driving with the cel

hey sorry if this has been posted, but i did a search and didnt really find much.

after cracking vtec just a tad on my way home, to take advantage of a small gap in traffic, my check engine light came on. im pretty positive it came on after i went into vtec.

now the ultimate question, is it okay to do daily driving with my cel? just until i have time to divulge further into the problem.

thanks

Re: driving with the cel

you should always address the CEL asap. an easy check would be to check your oil. VTEC is based upon compression. it burns oil. if you were low to begin with it may have thrown a CEL. if not what other issues do you have? runnin ok? sputtering? how is your idle?

Re: driving with the cel

I have a 96 s model, i was driving home one night and my check engine light came on, this was about three weeks after i got the car, i probably put 2,000 on it. I went to my friends shop and had them do all new belts and a valve adjustment, they replaced my o2, but the light did not go off. we called honda and it turned out the cats margin for error for the 96 model only since its obd2, was very tiny. Leesburg Honda took my car in and replaced the cat, spark plugs, dizzy, oil, and did a full tune on the car. FOR FREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE, CALL HONDA YOUR CAR SHOULD BE UNDER A 15 year 150,000 mile warrenty randomly
