Yes it comes off, it should have like a V in it you need to pry it up and then take it off

Re: working on my 5 lug swap this weekend, need immediate help

take a hammer and hit the rotor the bolt in the center has nothing to do with holding the rotor on (take a close look the center hole of the rotor is bigger then what the bolt is press onto). The size the bolt of the bolt is a 36mm.

Before you get to it the lower ball joint is going to be a pain in the ass man. So I'm going to help you not f**k it up

The best way to get that pain in the a$$ ball joint out it to
after getting the 17mm nut off take a pry bar wedge it between the spring and the upper control arm, pressing up on the under side of the control arm use a hammer and smack the side of were the bolt side of the ball joint is sticking through the lower control arm, if that doesnt work take the bolt thread it on with the flat side down a few threads and tap it with the hammer then repeat the step above.
The reason not to you a ball joint separator, is you could ruin the ball joint with it and its almost a 80% chance you will. Hope that helps man.

Re: working on my 5 lug swap this weekend, need immediate help

thanks mike...

before i get to that though i can't get this damn rotor off.

i got an impact driver and a 36mm socket (what fits over it) but the **** isn't coming off.

i know it has something to do with the locking tab on the axel nut but i can't figure out how it locks it. its just a hole. i dont see anything in it.

now as mike said this shouldn't have anything to do with the rotor which is also simply not budging. so i'm trying to get the rotor out thinking i'll beable to get a better view of the axel nut

any more tips on removing the rotor?? hitting it with a hammer is doing nothing.

Re: working on my 5 lug swap this weekend, need immediate help

Go get some pb blaster man that **** works wonders and soak the area were the rotor is locked up around. (there should be a lip that kinda stick out) also using the hammer smack between each wheel stud then the back side of the rotor man on the outer edge, this after getting some pb blaster sitting on there for like 10 mins.

Oh and if that doesn't work get a torch and heat that b!tch up.

Call me if you need any more help man I'll be up for a wile.

DO NOT TAKE A TORCH IT!!!

If you plan on reusing any of those parts do not use a torch no matter what. Heat changes the structure of the metal and makes it more brittle. If your replacing ever part that is going to be heated by all means burn that motha off.

Well he has to get vtec rotors the whole steering kunckle is going to come from a new lude so heat is ok. Oh and btw I work at a shop and this kind of thing is done everyday (as in heating up stuck on rusted on parts) and there has never been a come back.

Re: working on my 5 lug swap this weekend, need immediate help

well fellahs, I called it quits for tonight.

I dont have access to any PB blaster, and trying to make do with shop light is was driving me nuts even in the garage.

so tomorrow's a new day.

I started pretty late tonight maybe 7pm ish. Drove back from the USF/Kansas game this morning and had to go shopping for a few parts and borrow an impact driver (friggin life saver of a thing that is, without it those screws holding the rotors woulda never came off)

Didn't help much though cuz that rotor isn't moving. I considered torching etc... but I do not have the skill for that. I've never even picked one up in my life and without someone around me who knows what they're doing I dont wanna 'learn' on my own. (unless someone here wants to give me a crash course)

So as of tonight; I can't get the rotor off. I'm trying to get the axle nut off thinking that may help it a little but (1) the whole wheel keeps spinning and I dont have a helper to help me hold it still while I use the impact driver or something else on it. Not to mention that the 'lock' or whatver is on it i can't seem to figure out either. One side didn't have a V of any sort that had to be bent straight. The other side did and I bent that 'v' straight so I THINK that that should do it?

I haven't even touched the rears yet; but that should be significantly easier.

tomorrow's gonna be a longg day.

I'm gonna pick up the PB blaster first thing in the morning and soak the hell out of it, then stand back and cross my fingers.

anyone else have any other tips or suggestions I'd be greatful!

another thought: I dont have a torch nor do I know how to use it, but I do have a heat gun.... would that be of any help?? I'm replacing the spindles, hub, caliper, and rotor.... but I will ahve to use the same axle and axle nuts so I dont want to go too crazy on it.

At this point the car is completely imobile so one way or another i'm gonna have to make some progress tomorrow. So please suggest anything that may work!

wait!!!!
me and my dad did out suspension this weekend,
the best way to get the ball join out is...

pray penetrating fluid all over that ****, and some under the boot, then beat the long arm piece with a hammer, so in essence hit the side of the iron surrounding the threads,

wack repatidly on both sides and use penetracting fluid as required and it should pop after a while, work for all 4 like a dream!

That will help but using a pry bar like I said pushing up on the upper con arm will make it easier.

Re: working on my 5 lug swap this weekend, need immediate help

This is what I was told to do in AutoTech.
Note the two extra holes that have thread in them. Well find a bolt that will fit it (8mm x 1.25 thread not 100% sure) and start tighten them down it will pop the rotor off. use two at a time, doing a little on one side and then the other pulling the rotor off straight else it will get stuck.

you did get the two screw that hold the rotor on the hub right? if not then get a no. 2 or 3 phillips bit with an impact driver. if you manage to strip them out then drill the bastards out.

i found a long enougwh screw driver to put in one of the venting holes in the rotor to keep it straight and i'm using the torque wrench on axle nut and that **** is simply not budging either. I feel like someone musta welded this **** on.

I need more tips guys.

Re: working on my 5 lug swap this weekend, need immediate help

Just torch it bro, sounds about like all your going to get. Don't heat it up to where its red hot or anything, just enough to break it loose. Try it a few times, it will finally give. I bet those nuts are torqued to 200lbs atleast :/

the one on the left is the one i'm working on right now, I bent the 'v' straight.

the pic on the right is the one i' haven't done yet, and the way that circled part bends in is what i'm assuming you all mean by a 'v' that needs to be bent straight. is there another lock of some sort?

ok i got a torch, but i'm not exactly sure what i'm doing with it.

do i just heat around the axel nut where the rotor is held on and then start pulling again?

once again its loose now it just wont come completely out. its got wiggling room but theres like a little lip of some sort that it refuses to come over.
