Timing Advancement

Ok so I have searched online and I have searched through the website and I can't find anything about doing a timing advancement.

I know that if you go to far you can totally screw your car. I have advanced timing on a 1991 Honda Hatch SI, however I have no idea how to do it on a H23. Does anyone know the proper steps to doing so, or possibly have a link to do it?

Thank You.

Re: Timing Advancement

like said above if the car is a 92-95 turn your distributor towards the fire wall to advance and towards you to retard.

Re: Timing Advancement

Well the only way to know is turn it as much and you think would be safe and go drive it if it starts to spark knock (it sounds like marbles in a coffee can rattling around) stop and retard it a bit, then go again and keep retarding it until stops spark knocking.

Re: Timing Advancement

Turning the dizzy isnt going to gain you any power it will just change your spark advancement, the only way I know of gaining any sort of power is by increasing or decreasing the valve overlap with a set of cam gears. Or manually degreeing the cam angles for the setup and gains your looking for. I would not suggest doing this unless you have the proper monitoring tools and mechanical confidence to not mess it up. Correct me if Im wrong, Im kind of new to the import scene, and more familiar with the domestics but I do believe the principles are the same through out.

What do you mean there the same, are you saying that moving the dizzy has the same effect as if you were to actually change the geometry of the cam angles themselves? If so I would have to disagree with you on that, but either way Id say yeah its free horsepower, the timing is always retarded on cars for better fuel efficiency.

Incorrect, I gained ~9 hp on the dyno by advancing the timing with the dizzy.

Nice I guess Im proven wrong, most cases you arent going to net as much of a gain though. How much more torque did you make?
