Timing Problem, help please.

Hey guys, we just retimed my car and now it isn't starting it sounds like it wants to but it just wont. i checked out the timing belt install thread and saw that we forgot to adjust the rear balancer shaft and i also took my valve cover off and my exhaust cam is 1 to off. my ecu is also throwing code 9 for the no1 cylinder position sensor but it is a brand new disty , cap, rotor, icm, wires, plugs, and coil. I can smell its getting fuel, and i know all 4 cylinders are getting plenty of spark. I was thinking that because one cam was off a tad bit that it was possibly letting too much or all the air out before combustion? any ideas will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Nick

Re: Timing Problem... :wtf:

did the exact same thing on one of my motors. you wouldn't think 1 tooth would make that much of a difference, but it really does. mine bareelyyyyyy started, and when it finally did, i had to hold it @ like 3 grand just to keep it from stalling.
the CEL is most definately from the timing being off as well.
go back through your work, TAKE YOUR TIME, make sure both cams and crank are @ TDC, make sure BOTH balancer shafts are correctly lined up, and go through the tensioning instructions STEP BY STEP!!!! (olsen twins... yummmmmmyyy )

Re: Timing Problem... :wtf:

Thank you very much. I just had the head rebuilt and replaced all my sensors that were out of limit. Also replaced the entire ignition system. Took out the dash to remove a stupid killswitch that was messing with my wiring because the last owner was a hackjob, i had to solder the wires going to the ignition switch because the last owner sliced into them so i wasnt sure if it is effecting my no start but the wires not bare. Just want my lude back i miss my jdm h22 power!

Re: Timing Problem... :wtf:

I put my beast back in time today i had her started twice with the valve cover off (engine rpm was around 2k) took a little cranking with a battery charger set to jump start a vehicle hesitated then started. Now i put my valve cover on connected the pcv put the battery charger back on try to start it cranks then one time it hesitated like it wasnt gonna start like before could this be because of a week battery? or week gas? the gas is 3/4 full on premium but has been sitting for 8 months. it has a totally brand new ignition system all oem w/ ngk plugs pregapped i know the engine isnt struggling for air because i took my short ram off when i went to start it with the cover off smoke would come from were the valves were is this because its a new rebuilt head and the whole top end is new? im asuming its what goes through the pcv system just want to be sure. what is the cold cranking amp rating for a stock prelude w/ a h22 i know i need a new battery im not sure if this is the cause though. any input is greatly aprreciated.

Re: Timing Problem... :wtf:

diconnected the battery and pulled the radio/clock fuse to reset ecu the CEL light ends up going off after 2 seconds and fuel pump aint kicking on i usually hear it cause it was loud and my trunk is gutted but i tried cranking it and got code 9 again its a new disty assembly would this code be thrown because of the fuel pump not working or possibly a bad main relay which i think it could be

Re: Timing Problem... :wtf:

damn neck I had a timing belt put in buy HONDA and is was 90 off yes 90 off and the car would run good until I hit 5grand. They did have to fix it and there was no damage to the motor (i have no clue how but it ran for over a year until it was stolen and flipped)

Sorry about the double post but i had some time to mess with it. Here are my findings replaced fuel filter cause i relized i had one for it. but i came to the bottom of the fuel pump/main relay problem the fuel pump is good just as i thought so i had my girlfriend cycle the key from off to on as i tapped my main relay with a ratchet the pump kicked on everytime. So I still have a problem because the fuel pump was stilling kicking on every now and then after it started those 2 times. would the main relay make the ecu throw code 9? please help =] thanks in advance.

edit whats the spec for continuity between the 2 wires for the cyp

well if it kicked on when you were tapping it then i would say replace that. cuz it sounds like it it getting stuck. as for the code im not sure what code 9 is so i cant tell you. and i dont know the specs for the 2 wires either. ask Oem~koas he has alldata which might tell you

Re: Timing Problem... :wtf:

UPDATE! I redid the soilder inside the main relay it works everytime now so my fuel pumps kicking on! changed the fuel filter. i still dont have money for a fuel pressure gauge having no job and being a fulltime student. but i dont think my problem lies with fuel pressure. Before the ecu was throwing code 9 for CYP Sensore(No 1 position sensor) which its a entire new ignition system except the coil which is in spec. My battery is ****ty i need a new battery definately but now when i crank the car it sounds as if it wants to start its not throwing any codes but when i jump the date link connector its a sold CEL so is my ecu ****? can anyone recommend somewhere to buy a ecu if its bad? i know of phearable.net but can i get a oem for cheaper?
