Probably a stupid question.

So I just did my first oil change... and I don't have the manual for the car. I searched everywhere on the engine and on the internet for how much oil to put in the car. What I came out with is 5.2 quarts... So I emptied the old oil and changed off the oil filter and put in 5 quarts. I started the car up ran it a little and check the oil. The oil was about 1/2 an inch to high up the dipstick when I put .2 quarts to little in the engine... why? and how do I take some oil out without emptying the whole thing?

P.S. I searched all over for info on this so I am not just posting blindly :)

Re: Probably a stupid question.

I thought It was 4.2quarts (4.5quarts with the filter change) for the H23. That is what the back of the owners Manuel said.

Re: Probably a stupid question.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but it's usually 1quart for each cylinder so.

4 cylinder engine = 4quarts
6 cylinder engine = 6quarts

I dont this so and if so a ferrari would call for 12 quarts of oil. It really depends on the car, some call for 4 quarts some call for 4.5 quarts For about most cars. My dads Ridgeline called for just under 5 quarts. But i think the average is 4.5 quarts of oil.

A good trick i learnd was adding 4 quarts then checking it. add 1/4 of a quart and check it after untill its between the lines and also remember that oil will settel so dont check it rigth away.

Re: Probably a stupid question.

All Honda F series engines take around 4.5 quarts. Good rule of thumb after you drain, change filter and replace plug is to fill with 4 quarts first. Some people say run it for like 30 seconds, some don't, I say you can choose but overall give it some time to settle and than check the level and top off accordingly.

nah. depends on how much the engine is designed to take. one I4 could take 5 quarts while another could take 3 or 4.5 etc. It will tell you exactly how much to use in the manual for the specific car you are putting oil in. so if you change your own oil and depending on what engine you have, you might want to add .5 to 1 quart of oil to your prelude

Of course! You google "quart to liter conversion" and it pops right up, without even having to go to a site, google tells you it. So it was a pretty easy find!

Seriously, did you think I would know that sh*t off the top of my head? I'm a skateboarder/snowboarder/ex-pothead/alcohol lover from WI...seriously now... Even without the history on me, just saying "from WI" should give it away that I'm not smart, lol.

Where in WI? and yes - you are a HORRIBLE person - and just because you are from WI automatically means you can't drive worth a crap. Tell your fellow Wisconsinites to stay the hell off of the MN roads!!!

I knew you were from damn Minnesota when you said "greetings from the land of 10,000 lakes and 1,000,000,000,000 mosquitos" or whatever. And I actually drive well! However WI does have horrible drivers, but you should see the f*ckers in Philly and DC...holy ballsac...

Born in Milwaukee, went through your goofy ass state to live in ND for 5 years, went back through your goofy ass state to live in Manitowoc before I joined the military. Where in MN are you from?

Man. I lived 13 years there, cause like I said 5 were spent in the waste of space known as ND. Than I spent 7 mo's in Great Lakes, IL...10 mo's in Willow Grove, PA (20 mins north of Philly)...2 mo's in Camp Lejeune, NC...and now going on 6 mo's here in DC...and I definantly miss the Mid-west. All of these places have sucked, no one parties like WI. I can't speak for you MN guys, cause I've never partied with you. Canada is badass though, I've only ever visited though.

Well...if you're talking about me...I most certainly did. I would have to have a ridiculously good memory or be a nerd to know that off the top of my head. Which I definantly don't have, and am not. lol
