You have GOT to be kidding me pt.2

Well... my dad helped me change the rings in my motor 2 nights ago... i finally got the new oil and all lastnight and drove my car to school today.. well on the way home i was just driving along... not racing or drivin fast at all... come around this corner at like 25-30... i went threw either oil or more likely diesel fuel, it kinda started drifting, so I steered into it... well then it got threw the diesel/oil and grabbed traction and flung me around into the guard rail... i ended up rolling backwards down the road the other side of the road... facing the oppisite way I was going ... so ya... now i need some pieces.. this cars getting to be a curse

Thanks for reading,
Marshall

That sucks. At least you are OK.

I know in my car any way, if you give any opposite lock when you don't have traction it will mess you up.

Note to others: DO NOT give your prelude any opposite lock when in a drift (arse sliding).

Re: You have GOT to be kidding me pt.2

That is what you're supposed to do as far as I know. Did you hit the gas? Cause in a FWD car I don't think you're supposed to, caues once you grab traction, you'll accellerate in the direction your front tires are turned.

I used to drive a RWD truck when I lived in WI and I used to slide that SOB around corners on snow all the time, countersteering and giving it gas would straighten it out.

I hit a patch of black ice one time in my buddies RWD truck in Ohio, lost the back end. I countersteered and applied gas to help the back end get back into position but it was really slick and I overcountered, about 3 times back and fourth actually and ended up in a snow bank in the ditch, luckily no one including the vehicle was hurt.

I believe that countersteering works, If you didn't countersteer you would have probably spun the car and who knows how that would have ended. I think in a FWD you countersteer and apply brake, RWD countersteer and apply gas.

Sucks to hear about your car though bro. Hope it isn't too bad!

Re: You have GOT to be kidding me pt.2

I will use some of my Auto-x vids as a example.

That's what happen to me giving it opposite lock. It helped me miss the timing box and go back in to the grass.

When you give the car opposite lock the traction must be a constant though out the corner. If you all of a sudden receive traction it will mess up the weight distribution. And say the cones I hit was a guard rail that would have been bad.

This was a Scandinavian flick. I gave it no opposite lock and it held fine and was my best run. If you do give your car opposite lock you have to have the wheel back to straight when you get your traction back.

Re: You have GOT to be kidding me pt.2

I'll get pics up soon... im still drivin it... we got it put back together with misc. bolts and zip ties... but man is it ugly... question... anyone know if the SRS system on these cars include an air bag?... cuz mine should have blown... it would have stopped my head from hitting the steering wheel... which would have been helpful

Re: You have GOT to be kidding me pt.2

SRS is the airbag system. It will only blow the air bag if it detects a frontal impact. If they went off your car would have been considered totaled.

Re: You have GOT to be kidding me pt.2

Yeah, most times people hit their heads on their steering wheels and go "well wtf, where's my SRS plz?"

It's frontal impact only, usually, and if you're ok, it's not worth the car being totaled anyway, ya' know?

My mom flipped a Saturn once, way back in the day, she rolled it three times, coming up to an exit ramp covered in gravel for some reason, and her airbag didn't deploy.

So, yeah, SRS is for rear enders heh.

Re: You have GOT to be kidding me pt.2

/\ car wouldn't have been able to be totalled lol... all i got is liability, and it was on a back road... so i pulled the bumper lights and put them in the back seat, then stuck the bumper in the car (in the back seat sticking out the moon roof)... and left

Oh, that's not too bad then, I was thinking you like, tore your front end off.

I have a couple little bumps and scrapes from doing exactly what you were doing, only on purpose.
Still, terrible luck, sorry to hear it.
