no vtec wtf!?

Ok so a simple 20 min wire tuck turned in to 2 days of me bein pissed off...I had to wire the vtec when I did the engine swap and it worked fine. So a couple days ago I decided I didn't like the wiring job I did so I hide the wires and the ecu started throwin code 21 which is the spool solonoid ( which I'm guessin is the vtec) so I checked all the wires and everything was ok so today I spent the day building a real, nice wiring harness with a honda plug and so I thought it would work and am still gettin that code and no vtec... So

Now do u guys think that the actual solonoid went bad? Let me know...

Re: no vtec wtf!?

Code 21 is the VTEC Solenoid Valve which is basically the same thing. Check your solenoid screen, it just might be clogged up.

Re: no vtec wtf!?

^^^ indeed your vtec not kicking in could be an indication of low oil. as an engine protection feature vtec only kicks when the motor has good oil pressure. If you oil is good then the vtec solenoid may not be sending the signal that the motor has the proper oil pressure..

Re: no vtec wtf!?

Duh! How dumb of me lol. Check the oil. Usually with low oil, VTEC would kick in but at higher RPMs cause of the low pressure and usually that won't cause a CEL.

Re: no vtec wtf!?

Ok just topped of the oil and still cel. Pulled the solenoid... I wasn't really lookin to see if it was clogged but I think it was ok. I will check again tomorrow... I don't have an oil pressure light on so I think that it has good oil pressure. Maybe I will buy a autometer oil press gauge... But maybe not... Thanks for the help keep it commin... Oh I am pickin up a new solenoid from a local buddy and gonna put that on and will see if that works..

Did you try checking/changing the solenoid screen?

Re: no vtec wtf!?

does the o.s.u. hookup below the filter have a sensor of its own.....
can it be tied right into without having to run a t-joint or having a constant oil pressure light in the car?
btw smokin_1 ill be at the crib after 5 tomorow and almost all day saturday if you want to come pickup that switch off the engine in the garage....

how much do they run anyway's i might wana pick up a new one for spare?

Re: no vtec wtf!?

the black thing coming off the T fitting is the sensor and if i didnt have the T it would go directly into the block. i used to have the fitting but i took it off and just screwed in the oil pressure gauge i bought where it would of gone. it works better than the stock pressure sensor ever will anyways so i did away with it

and i dont have an oil light on without the stock sensor.

this is what i HAD. i was using a "T" fitting

if you are asking me. then i would have to say there is no way to run one with the stock pressure sensor.

Re: no vtec wtf!?

im going to guess its the wiring. You were not throwing a code until you played with the wires so start there.

Re: no vtec wtf!?

Ok so I went thru and ran a solid wire straight from the solenoid to the ecu... So here's what I found... My green/yellow wire is on pin A3 I believe but it was workin before... And it still didn't work... Any odeas? So u think somehow the pin in the ecu went bad or shorted or something?
