is my 4th gen totaled...?

so i let my friend drive my prelude....bad idea
he hit a tree doing about 35-45mph, amazingly he hit the tree on the right side so there was no damage to the engine or anything, it looks like all body, but some of the body under the right side of the hood...
does it look totaled? and if not around what price is the fix gunna cost?

Re: is my 4th gen totaled...?

My gut tells me no, but you never know the way insurance companies look at it.
But hey, if it is, take the check and put it towards another.

Re: is my 4th gen totaled...?

To me the car isnt totalled. And 2000$ sounds about right to fix it, looks like youll need a new hood, headlight, front bumper, passenger fender, tailight, maybe rear bumper, windshield. The insurance companies call totaled if the damage exceeds the amount of which the car is worth which is usually a KBB value and is pretty low on our high mileage and older 4th gens. Good luck

Idk that wheel is pushed up into the wheel well pretty good. That what my friends car looked like after he snaped off his control arm mount. Post pics of the suspension on the wrecked side.

if he has a limit you will need to kick his ass to get all of the $$ out of him lol. it looks fixable to me..you can get most of the parts on ebay for a decent price. must have been a realll sharp turn to crash it at 40.

what state are you in?

Re: is my 4th gen totaled...?

From past experances it would be totaled since the car is worth so little!!! I fought with state farm for 3 grand not to totaled my prelude with all the extras it had on it and i lucked out. If i was you id fix it. Parts are cheap on ebay compared to dealer cost. Let us know what happend. Good luck and if you want to sell it ill buy it!!!!!!

Re: is my 4th gen totaled...?

fenders
hood
bumper cover
headlight(s)
signals
rear bumper cover
taillights
paint
wheel well splash shields

thats just the big stuff from what i can see, if you cant do all of that yourself,

macco will paint the crap for like 400ish
i that as a grand and a half in parts, since hoods are so goddamn exspensive along with the headlights.
if you have someone put it all together theyre bound to charge you about 3-400 for labor because they rape.

sounds like 2.5k closer to a 3k fix for some friend you got there, I sure as hell hope your not paying for this out of your pocket...

dont let them scrap it, part it out then you can get some of your money back.. unless they want to total it through insurance now.

seeing as minimal damage, if you part it and not get it toataled you may get a few pennies back, i.e from selling the engine and other parts...

Re: is my 4th gen totaled...?

Totalled? I wouldn't say that from pics, but sometimes it's a difficult call until the car is actually on a hoist. Trace all damage points - frame members and suspension. Is the car driveable? If no...got AAA or Good Sam's Club or maybe driver does. If so, get 3 shop estimates and compare the damage lists. Then, with that list, check your local scrap yard or some members here might help you if you post it. Also, check the roof line and pilars - since crack in sunroof.
And btw, if your insurance does write it off (which I doubt) ask their price and you can buy it back if you want. I kinda know what you're dealing with. I just bought a fixer-upper and this ones definitely a write-off - was a 3rd gen. Crashed!
Good luck.

Re: is my 4th gen totaled...?

They actually will total it if it's more than 75-80% of the "Value" of the car, they don't base it on a full 100%, if you hit that 80%, they (insurance) won't fix it, I know you're thinking of not going through insurance, but I bet it's going to be close to 3k to fix it properly.

Re: is my 4th gen totaled...?

the insurance company is the one that determines whether its totaled or not, not the body shop. the body shop wants there to be more damage cuz thats more money for them.
since your not going thru insurance, there's no one to say if its totaled; your just gonna pay for everything outta pocket obviously.

^^^ pretty much what I mean, my dad owns a body shop, so we deal with this all the time, lol, and with most insurance companies, they usually only go up to the 80%, and we try to stay below that, but if we can't fix it correctly without going above it, then they usually come out and do an evaluation on the car, see what they think its worth, blah blah blah...

yup the car can drive, the engines perfect and everything, the only problem really is the right front tire scraping on the plastic crap, but it still drives fine, im thinking that i can rip the bumpers and all that off, and just replace the right front panel and drive like that, but since theres a little frame damage my parents wont let me drive the car under their supervision (till im 18) but ill ask this question here because the guy who looked at it isnt a lude' owner is the part inside the hood that the fusebox is hooked onto part of the frame or is it replaceable without much work?

Re: is my 4th gen totaled...?

FRAME DAMAGE!!!!!!! Seeing that the tire is scraping the rear fender you have frame damage. Look at the lines on the car, IE fenders to door, driver side hood. If lines have big gaps. ithere there is the frame is swayed, your lower control arm where it meets the cradle is probly bent!!!! Easy fix if you know what your doing and have a frame rack or dozer to pull the frame!!
