maybe buying my first prelude?

Hey guys, im new to the forums, and i came here in search of advice. There is a 93 prelude si near me for sale, it has 237k miles on it. The guy says the car runs mint, and the interior is mint, but the outside needs a little body work, its automatic also by the way. What do you guys think? should i got with it? if i do is there a relatively easy engine swap i can do that wont cost alot of money? do you think the car would hold for a while with the engine it has now? also how much do you think it would be worth? Thanks

unless the owner took extremely good care of it, with that high mileage there's bound to be many problems with it.

the guy said an old lady owned it before him, he said he bought it because it still ran good. he said nothing is wrong with it except for a little bit of rust on the passenger quarter panel.

theres alot to go into but mainly just look for excessive rust, check to see how suspension feels, ask for any and all paper work to see about the maintenance. Even if an old lady owned it she may not have kept up with all the maintenance. Depending on the condition of the engine, i see a swap coming up soon.

how much does he want for it? have it checked by a mechanic...ya never know it might need axles, tie rods, bearings, and things like that. I wouldnt pay more than 2000 for it w that mileage. do you have any pics of it?

Pics would be great.
You can get another H23 with much lower mileage for a few hundred dollars. The F22 also fits, and bolts to the tranny if you're on a budget. It doesn't make as much power, but it's perfect for daily driving. I had an Accord with an F22, 255K miles when I sold it and I still drove it on 4 hour trips like it was nothing, and it leaked no oil, but my mom bought it new and it was always taken care of. Point is, they're cheap and good engines if you just need a way to go.
If you want power, H22 is the way to go, and also bolts to the H23 tranny, but it's recommended that you get the H22 manual tranny, or else you'll fall out of VTEC when shifting at high rpms.
As for the body, like I said, need pics. If there's a lot of rust, I wouldn't bother with it unless you just like body work. Check closely around the 1/4 panels for rust, and the moonroof, that's the two places 4th gens love to get rust at most.
But from your description, assuming it's just bad paint and some dings, and the interior is at least a 7 out of 10, I wouldn't give more than $1500, probably less.

Hope this helped.

200k is high but i had a civic that had 178kmi and made it from ny to fl no stops just to get gas at 80 mph. The best part is i was 1 hour away from my old home town just getting in to ny, i let my lil bro drive and he fell alseep behind the wheel and sure **** enough the car didnt make it back to fl. Honda has there **** down on great products as long as the cars not beat it should run fine. Yes the car will burn oil, over a period of time and exessive heat, your valve seals dry up and allow for leakage in to the motor. So its common. The tranny, should be fine again if somoene hasnt beaten on it. I'd get it flushed with new oils in it. The rust is common on the sun roof and rear quaters, you gotta cut out the rust and put a new patch of metal and then bondo, etc. But thats little things. I'd prefer to have a good running car thats needs some body work then a big mechinical failuer with a nice body.

Make sure it is what you want there a common car for some kid to drive like a nut with every day and i have seen them with old ladys that are orginal owners.

Good luck let us know how it goes
