Oil Light

Checked the oil, About 3/4ths full, 1cm from the full line. Everytime i accelerate the oil light starts going off, faint blinks then to solid then the solid blink. Not too sure what the problem could be...oil pump? oil sending unit? no idea...any suggestions? Thanks!

see if the wire going to the oil pressure sensor is in bad condition, or has a bad connection.

Well the wire is rigged up but it still is making a connection. Drive the car around the block and white smoke is coming from behind the engine...I really dont know what it could be. It sounds like its running fine, oil level is good, it doesnt overheat. Im going to try to get a new sensor but anyone know where I can get another wire from. My wire doesnt even have a boot, whoever had the car before me just screwed a L connector and wrapped the wire around it and covered it up with tape.

just get an oil pressure gauge and a new sending unit!
The stock light is pretty much useless, that light comes on at some ridiculously low pressure, usually between 8-15psi when your car is already screwed!

If you get the gauge and it really is low when you accelerate you got a problem, possibly the pump being clogged or dying.

that light comes on at less than 6psi or so cuz at idle and fully warmed up my oil gauge reads 8 or so. but either way like sfields said its pretty much useless

haha yeah, well I have the unit on order, it'll be here Saturday. It may be the sensor that went bad though...there was some oil resting on the bottom of the actual sensor where it attaches to the block and some dripped down onto the exhaust pipes and the only way for it to do that would be to come out of that sensor because my block isnt leaking oil or anything or else the level wouldn't stay where it is. Also any ideas or anyone willing to sell me that boot off the wiring harness for this sensor or where I could get one because all i have is this rigged up wire on this sensor...really I'm going to take a picture of it tomorrow and let you guys rofl about it because I sure did when I first saw it the other day. Thanks for the info and help btw guys!!!

truth about AZ...3 times they gave me the wrong parts, mostly for the F22...drives me crazy, the other day i walked in and asked for an oil pressure gauge got a (?.?) face and they tried to sell me a $90 pod and said if i wanted to get an actual oil pressure tester that i would have to get one through snap on...i ROFL'd in their faces said they didnt know what they were talking about and got one from a local mechanic 2 miles down the road. i have to emphasize every time I want a part from them H22 2.2 Liter DOHC VTEC!!! but yeah autozone FTL...part gets there tomorrow morning, hopefully.

k finally got it on...still doing it. Its not coming on when i accelerate anymore. only when i come to a stop, it will start to flicker. Oil level is good. Im trying to locate an oil pressure gauge but im having trouble finding one. Im debating on whether or not to take it down to my local mechanic shop. Its about 8 miles down the road but im afraid something will happen to the car on the way or something and i dont really have access to a trailer...should i try and go and just stop every few miles to let it cool down or something? i mean it's not driving funny, making noises or anything it drives fine. good power and everything.

well is it over heating???? go to the parts store and look in where they keep all the gauges at, water temp, tachometer and such and buy a cheap oil pressure gauge and hook it up in place of where the stock oil pressure sensor is to get an actual reading on the pressure.

I hate to tell you this but it might be serious. I bought a 1992 si, driving it home the oil light started flashing. I knew when I bought the car I knew it was leaking oil out of the rear seal bad. I thought that was the cause for low oil pressure. Anyway it would still flashed, motor ran great. I finally after going through the electrical, checked the end play on the crankshaft and it would move about a quarter inch! The trust washer had spun!

took it to the shop so they could hook their gauge up to it. Did 14 lbs off idle, while it was idling it wouldn't even register on the gauge. Said rear seal by tranny had a small leak in it and was dripping oil onto the exhaust. So im guessing i spun bearings???

Re: Oil Light

I've got a similar thing happening to me. The oil light will start to come on a little bit when the car is idling, but only after I have been driving for a half hour or more. The Prelude gods must not be happy with me
