timing belt

hey my dad was looking at my timing belt and he things it is lose how do i check and is there supposed to be a plate covering it cuz i think mine is gone and how tight or lose should it be

a general rule of thumb is that on the long side of the belt (the length of the belt farthest toward the front of the car) it should only be able to twist no more than 90 degrees. also look at the teeth and if they look warn or rounded off then i would change it.

its a big job. its also recommended to do both belts, water pump, tensioners, and maybe some seals if you feel like it. around $800'ish
