what is this hose for?

im not sure wat this hose is or wat its for. thats where u all come in to play. could u tell me wat it is? cuz its leaking & i have no clue wats coming out im not throwing ne codes & im not over heating, i just want to kno wat it is. neway here are some pics:

it squirt some kind of fluid all over this stuff:

I had that same problem Eric, same leak same place same outcome...

You should replace that line before your engine catches on fire...keep checking your power steering fluid reservoir and add as im pretty sure you are losing p/s fluid.



note* you cant just replace that part of the hose, you need a entire new hose and that job to remove and install the power steering hose is NOT FUN AT ALL.

I drove like that Jacob for a few weeks in the summer. and i am blessed b/c my engine never caught on fire.

I started to remove the line then realized it goes underneath the car. I gave up and the mechanic on his lift did it in 1 hour. :sick:

Stupid design i have to say, but im sure there is a practical reason why they had to tuck this sht all up and around. It's not even found in the manual either...



edit: Eric, if you know of a place where someone can braze weld, you can repair it. But remember, power steering line is pumping fluid at hundreds of pounds...get it done right or replace entire line

haha i was kiddin about duct taping it!! i've never had that problem, but i'm sure i will eventually, is the leak coming from a metal pipe area or a rubber hose area?

thanks brian & jacob. i wasnt gonna put duct tape on it neway. i was gonna try to find a clamp or something but i couldnt find one. but neway, the leak is coming from a rubber hose but its wrapped w/ a metal one. i think the metal "hose" wrapped around it acts as a heat shield i guess.

I don't really know if I'd wanna be brazing anything inside of an engine compartment (something just doesn't feel right about running a high pressure oxygen+acetylene [or oxygen propylene] torch that close to the motor, filled with power steering fluid no less... in order to properly braze something, the filler metal has to be heated to over 450 degrees CELSIUS [that's about 840 degrees farenheit I believe]... and if you are using a brass or bronze filler metal, it's gotta be even hotter... sometimes 860 to 980 degrees celsius). What metal is the line made out of? Copper or steel I assume right? I've never heard of anyone brazing anything other than copper, steel, and sometimes (very rarely) brass (because the whole point of brazing is that the filler metal melts at a much lower point than the base metal... and brass has a fairly low melting point). I would feel perfectly fine brazing that bad boy on a bench.. but if that's the case, and you've already removed it, it might be better to just replace it lol. I think your best bet would be to replace the whole line like these guys said.

Also, if it is made of copper, when you do replace it, don't let the shop keep it, call a scrap yard and sell it to them, you can get a couple bucks for it depending on how much it weighs... copper is flippin expensive nowadays.
