Vehicle speed sensor

Hey guys I need some help. My vehicle speed sensor went out. I know where it is located but my problem is my shifting linkage I think is blocking the one bolt. I got the one bolt off towards the drive side direction but the other bolt I think is stuck hiding behind the shifting linkage. Has anyone had this problem and got around it?

Re: Vehicle speed sensor

for the benefit of those reading this who don't know the location of the vss...If you have a 90/91 the vss is located on the transmission. If you have an 88/89 the vss is located at the back of the gauge cluster.

I haven't tried to remove mine with the transmission in the car, but lots of people have done this. The shift linkage and mounting bracket are easy enough to remove if it's in the way. The cables come off easily after removing the cotter pins, just make sure you don't drop any washers. Just move them out of the way after removing them. The shift cable mounting bracket is held on with I believe 3 bolts, but you'll see them when you get the cables off.

Re: Vehicle speed sensor

Thanks for the reply luzer.

So I was able to remove the bracket and get the sensor out. How do you tell if the internal portion is bad? On the magnet portion on the inside I didnt have any washers in it. Wonder why that is why mine doesn't work. Also, if it is bad where can I get a replacement? I can't find any anywhere that matches my 91 prelude.

Re: Vehicle speed sensor

I won't be a lot of help on that since I haven't had to fix one. I seem to remember that there were options on replacement, but you might want to do some research on that. Check over on preludepower.com, I think there have been a few threads about that over the years over there.
