Donor car price??

I found on Craigslist few hours away... https://binghamton.craigslist.org/cto/6037028405.html.

Looking for another 4ws. I understand this car isn't the cruiser 4ws car I'm looking for but would it be a good donor car? Is $450 being reasonable or should I offer him less? Jw I know these are getting rare.

Re: Donor car price??

$450 is too much. It would make a good parts car if the seller was telling the truth about the engine and trans being good. But since it's been parked in a field for 9 years it's possible that the engine or trans have water in them and are no good. Also, the spoiler isn't a 3rd gen Prelude spoiler. You should look it over real closely if you do decide to buy it. And definitely verify that it really is a 4ws model. Offer them a couple hundred if you think it's worth it and let him know that you have the cash on you. I paid less than that for cars that were in better shape.

Re: Donor car price??

Make sure you pull the dipstick and see if there is at least oil in the crankcase. I'm not thinking it's worth the hassle if the engine is toasted. If you do buy it, I don't even try starting it until you change the fluids, including the gas. There is a drain bolt in the fuel tank. Then you'll want to try turn the engine over by hand to make sure it's not seized (be sure it's in neutral first). There is a lot of advice on what to do before starting an engine that's been sitting for years. You might want to google that.

A parts car is nice to have, especially now that parts are becoming harder and harder to find. I used to have one but I really couldn't afford the space anymore. I can't tell you how many times I've wished I still had that car now whenever I have an issue with my current lude LOL.

Welcome to the forum. You should have probably created your own thread instead of jacking this one.

To address your post, the price you have listed is a fair price if the thing still runs. But letting it sit like you did is the worst thing you can do to a car unless it's stored properly. Sounds like this wasn't the case. Also, in your ad you stated that mechanical 4ws was only available for two years, which is wrong. It was available on 88 thru 91 models in the US (4 years).

If you can get it to run and drive I would start at $1000 and come down from there if nobody bites at that price. There are a three things about that car that bring the price down for most. 1. It's been sitting for many years. 2. There is a lot of rust in the body. 3. It has an automatic transmission.

If you can't or don't get the car to run and dive, the value I would put on it would be about half of what it would be worth if it runs and drives. It would be worth your time to fix the issues before selling because you can get a radiator for about $100. There will probably be more issues with it now that it's sat for so long (water pump, timing belt, leaking gaskets and seals, brakes, wheel bearings... to name just a few).
