Advice/Input wanted for Rebuild

Hello all, I'm new to the forum and new to the car scene in general but after a lot of snooping ive decided to join to ask for some advice

The rundown of my situation is I have a 1990 2.0S in my garage that's Im basically intending to gut and fill out with something that does that chassis some justice.
Basically I have 9k-11k and a about 8 months to get this thing running well and all the major work done. I have access to a large scale shop and most tools of the trade and can work for around 5-10 hours a week.

The major problems that keep it from running are parts that are worn/need replacing like: the timing belt, water pump, serpentine belts, exhaust (leaks in system), shot suspension (springs) (pretty bad on the driver's side), CV joints, brake bearings, the ignition module, and more.
Basically a lot of parts are done for and I plan on just dropping it all and buying new/used in good condition parts

I'm interested in doing an engine swap, and I'd like to have decent gas milage as well as power. The k20 and H22 seem to be the most "popular" as far as third gen engine swaps go to my knowledge.

I'm no pro racer but I'd like to keep this car in a condition to handle the pressure of drift for the times I get it together enough to practice/race

I'll be in college soon and I'm studying to be a mechanic so I have a general knowledge as well as aid from mentors for this project, but as of right now my personal know how isn't anything special, which is why I'm asking for your guys input on this

I just want to open a discussion on what would be plausible and get some help and advice from some of you guys who know leagues more about these cars than I do. I think the prelude is a gorgeous car and something I'd be willing to drive the rest of my life, and work on it too. Being a single guy with no intentions of family I gutta find some way to spend my money right?

Here is your answer -

1. H22 swap - The Official H22 Swap thread by 1FunRyd

2. B20b/z swap - B20b/z Swap

The K20 swap is not a popular or common swap and will cost you a lot more in money and custom work to get that going as well as cutting a big hole in the hood which ruins the look of your lude as well as still does not give it good ground clearance.

Contact me for the swap kits and core swap parts info to make these swaps happen.

One thing you said in your first post stuck out to me. Maybe I'm not following your terminology, but you do know that FWD cars are not drift cars don't you? Since the Prelude is FWD it's not suited for drifting in the same way that RWD cars are.

I noticed that as well... drift? In a Prelude? More like powerslide and then understeer into the wall.

Re: Advice/Input wanted for Rebuild

Yeah I probably could have worded it better; yes FWD cars can drift, but its definitely not as pretty, elegant, or efficient as RWD by any means (or even MR or AWD really) but it is possible. I made this comment more about how I want practice and learn better how to drive a FWD in a drift context, more wanting to better myself as a driver than to really be a great drifter or anything. RWD definitely has a great advantage in any kind of competition for sure. But yeah reinforcing her for drift capability id definitely lower on the list of things to do.
