Hello Everyone,

I have a 1991 Si ALB Lude and I had to replace my power steering pump and I went to Advanced Auto and showed them the old one and they replaced it for me with the same one slot for the pulley. Well I got home and tried to assembly the pulley to the pump and the back of the pulley is hitting one or two of the four bolt pattern. I tried to attach some photos so I hope they are displaying can some please help me???

I can't see your pics. But if the pulley doesn't fit correctly I'd say they gave you the wrong pump. If you still have your old pump, compare the shaft length of the two and see if they are the same or not.

These rarely go bad. Why did you have to replace your old pump?

Re: Power Steering PUMP Issue- Can't Assembly Pulley On

The power steering pump got burned out. Basically I had a one in a million situation where the main pulley/crankshaft pulley nearly spilt in half. It looks like one piece but it is actually two. Thus the inner part was spinning around and it overworked my power steering pump. I took it right away to a local mechanic that had just opened up and was found thru craigslist. Took him 2 weeks to get everything off since who ever did the timing belt before didn't assembly I think everything on right. Long story short I replaced every single part for the timing belt assembly with Honda parts and the car was screaming with happiness and performance.
The receipt from Advanced Auto says it is for a 1991 Honda Prelude so I will go back and check with them.

Re: Power Steering PUMP Issue- Can't Assembly Pulley On

Your post is a little confusing. What I got out of that is that the pulley separated causing the pump to burn out. Not sure why you mentioned the timing belt as it has nothing to do with the power steering pump, unless you are just providing some background on work that's been done to the car.

Just because the receipt says it's for a 91 Prelude doesn't mean Advanced Auto didn't make a mistake with that part. I'm just suggesting that you compare your old pump with the new one side-by-side, as well as taking measurements to see what is different. Did you also replace the pulley? Did you also get that from Advanced Auto? It could be the problem and not the pump. If I need a pump I'll just go to the junkyard and grab one for 8 bucks. If it has a problem I'll try another one. The most common reason people replace them on a 3rd gen is because the front seal is prone to leaking. You can easily replace the seal so the pump itself would need to fail before I would replace it, as yours apparently did. LOL

I am confused too.
But sometimes those overseas manufacturers put stuff in the wrong box.

Mike: I see a 91 in your sig. How long you had that one?

I picked up my 91 last November for $400. It had a blown engine and rust-free body. Since I had a spare b20a in my garage it was a no brainer lol.

Re: Power Steering PUMP Issue- Can't Assembly Pulley On

goofyball_7, is English your first language?

It sounds to my like your craigslist mechanic kinda jerked you around a bit and may have fed you some B.S. about a failing balancer pulley causing your pump to fail, but I guess anything can happen(especially on drugs). I suggest he has inflated his credentials and experience because it took two weeks. I am however glad to hear he was able to get it back together eventually. Since that time it sounds like you either have the wrong power steering pulley, or you are pitting it on backwards.

And you still haven't fixed your photos. You have to use a photo hosting site like Photobucket, then post the image link into the forum. As of right now, nobody can see your photos.
