Icon9 Stuck In Park?

Hello Everyone,

I have a 1991 Honda Prelude 2.1 Si ALB and this weekend the car wouldn't come out of Park.. I went on some sites and I check my transmission fluid which was at the level it needed to be at. The fluid is less then 3 years old and still looks bright red since most of my driving is highway.
I removed the four solenoids and cleaned them out even though I didn't see any dirty, metal chips or anything concerning. I even tested to make sure I heard the click noise on each solenoid by supplying current to it.
I have to say it helped a little bit since I was able to get the car out of Park but it still seems like it isn't as smooth as it should be so what else could be the problem? Some have suggested my fuses but they all look ok to me.

Re: Stuck In Park?

The shifter moving? Is it in park or are you saying it goes into other gears but nothings happening. Had to replace my trans once cause when the internal filter gets clogged then you're kind of screwed. New trans fluid change didn't help. When you put it in another gear can the car roll?

Re: Stuck In Park?

The car was driving fine until I got it into the garage on Friday and wasn't able to remove it back out, thus it wouldn't shift out of Park into other gear.
Once I cleaned the solenoids it seemed to have helped even though I didn't see any debris or dirt.
My last guess is maybe it has to do with my brakes. The are due for a change and maybe when I am pressing on the brake it isn't sending some sort of a signal to the transmission.
7/11 - Drove it to work today and everything was fine, it isn't perfect but it is a lot better shifting out of PARK.

Re: Stuck In Park?

I know that there's a solenoid at the base of the shifter that allows you to get out of park ONLY when you press on the brakes. I used to bypass it by sticking a key in the little key hole near the shifter. That's what it's for. The only time it wouldn't get out of park was cause my idle was too high. Even if that solenoid breaks, You can still push down on that little key hole to get it out of park. When you press on the brakes while it's at idle, You should hear a little click at the base of the shifter.
