Center caps

I don't know if this known or not, I couldn't find it anywhere so I thought I should post.

For those using factory polished aluminum alloy wheels but missing a center cap or two, you can use one for a 2000-2006 insight. One came into the shop the other day, and as I try to test fit every large Honda cap to my car, I did so with this one. It is a direct duplicate. My cap fit the insight, the insight cap fit my prelude. The "H" is even identical. These caps are still available from Honda.

Specifics:
My car-89 SI 4WS with 6 spoke blades part # 42700-SF1-A91 (right) and part # 42710-SF1-A91 (left).
My center cap # 44732-SF1-A90

Insight-2001 auto w/o AC wheel part # 42700-S3Y-E31
Insight cap #: 44732-S3Y-010

For those with the frost white 5 spoke blades found on the 90-91's, you can remove the outer aluminum covering of these caps and paint the plastic white and the "H" black for a factory replica of cap # 44732-SF1-A22. The center "H" is already molded into the plastic under the aluminum.

Hope this helps.

Re: Center caps

Had to do a white one like you spoke of.

Been trying to tell folks there are other center caps that fit.

You just confirmed it.

Re: Center caps

yeah, I new one had to fit. I have tried Accords, Civics, different Acura's, but this was the first direct fit.

Re: Center caps

I wonder why Honda gave it a different part number if it's identical. In any case, nice find.

Re: Center caps

Could be they changed poly formulas, alloys or resins at some point based on R&D results yielded from starting out on the Prelude or Integra.

Hood prop keepers from 96-00 accords are same as the 3g prelude. Same color and all. Yet something tells me they figured out something about them, then made changes.

Any knowledgeable parts guy at Honda when asked for a 3g prelude hood prop keeper will go in the back and grab accord ones off the shelf, come back with it and ask "anything else?"

The hood prop rod holder is still available for 3rd gens (as are the hood prop rod grommet), so that's not a good example. But I get what you're saying. If I had a little more time I'd look to see if the prop rod holder from the Accords that you mentioned above has the same part number as the 3rd gen Prelude. This may explain why they are still available.

Re: Center caps

Not sure why they're listing that as discontinued for a 91. Check for an 89 2.0Si 4ws and it's being shown as in stock. It should be the same part on all 3rd gens. I bought a couple of them last year.
