88 Prelude 4WS back on the road

Picked up a 3rd gen for my daughter a while back and finally got it back on the road. Replaced radiator as it had a blown A/T cooler and leaked into coolant. Flushed tranny fluid and replaced speedometer cable to cure a speed pulsar problem code. Also replaced timing belt, water pump, brake pads & rotors, starter and O2 sensors to pass smog.

Re: 88 Prelude 4WS back on the road

Nice!!!

White ones are cool.

Is the interior gray or blue?
Some had light/med blue, while some had black/gray interiors.
The holy grail of the white model is a tan interior.

Thanks, I think they do look good in white. Interior is med blue.

Grats on getting the lude back on the road. Your daughter will love it!

I had a white 3rd gen once. I really liked them in white. Mine had black interior. I like the tan, but only if it still looks new. That color didn't hold up the the test of time like the black, dark brown, or even blue interiors did, and they show the dirt more than the other colors.

I just replaced all my blue interior with black from a 91si, if you need anything for the blue let me know and I will send it your way. It would be doing both of us a favor.

Back on the road for a couple weeks and already some A**hole scrapes the front bumper. Not to bad, but still you work hard to keep your vehicle nice, and some jerk does this. This pic is after I rubbed out the paint from the other car, so it looks a little better. Scraped it all the way to the front of the wheel opening

Re: 88 Prelude 4WS back on the road

You can get some color match white in a rattle can if you don't have a spray gun. Then after it cures for a week or two, you can wet sand it then polish it to match. You probably don't want to use finer paper than 1500 because it may cause a smother shinier spot than the rest of the car.

Why are you thinking Canada? Looks USDM to me. In a couple of the pics you can see the seat belts look to be in the door and not the B-pillar.

Re: 88 Prelude 4WS back on the road

Some interior pics. I think we did pretty good finding this prelude, or should I say it just kind of fell in are laps. It was abandoned on a friends rental property and we did the paper work for a lien sale. Maybe $700 into it so far.

Re: 88 Prelude 4WS back on the road

You said it was blue. Either that is a bad camera or that is what Honda called "off black" plus some fading. looks good except the missing right side mirror screw cover and the aftermarket harness addition to the left door and broken mirror control switch. Kinda funny that someone used a S-type carburated mirror on the right door too. I see the seat belt buckle service bulletin was competed also and I see an after market alarm.

Re: 88 Prelude 4WS back on the road

^^What he said. Interior looks black/charcoal to me too. It is kind of strange that the passenger side mirror is manual. Makes me think a previous owner may have replaced the door with one from a carbie lude. But it's also possible the mirror broke or was damaged, and all they could find was a manual mirror at the time.

Re: 88 Prelude 4WS back on the road

I wonder if the auto 4ws version didn't include a spoiler.

Now color of the interior: my old red auto car had some black areas that had faded to gray, where the seats were a dark gray with blue stripes, which caused some of the faded areas to appear blue.

The 3g had a ton of interior combinations. I'm sure you know what I mean Mike with all the junkyard cars you saw.

Gray with say light gray headliner, or gray with dark gray headliner..

The black n tan I used to have had some camel stuff and some sand stuff inside. But most of the tan interior cars I picked from had one or the other.
We picked from an auto 88 4ws in like 012 that had red stripes in the gray cloth...

I enjoyed the robins egg blue interior of a robocop blue 91 we picked from. Only 3g prelude I've ever seen that color. It was minty, and low miles but had been in a double ender collision. Such a shame.

In 88 it was hit or miss if the 4WS had a spoiler. My blue 89 has one, my black 88 does not. My past cars- another black 88 4WS had a spoiler, red 89 4WS had one, white 89 4WS had one, red 90 2.1 SI did not have a spoiler, and 88 SI did not have one.

In 88-89 if it had a factory installed spoiler it was a 4WS (not to be confused with dealer installed spoilers(could be spotted by the high mount brake light in the back window and the spoiler or a double center support)). However every model came in a spoiler-less option. In 90+ you could now have a factory spoiler in any trim that was SI+ but they are most common found on the 4WS and ALB models. Every year had a different spoiler and many so similar it is hard for non-prelude people to spot the differences, with exception of the few and far between double center post, and no-high mount light options that where typically dealer installed accessories.

According to Honda, in 88 the only interior color options where:

S type:

palmy gray-NH89L
silky blue-B47L
silky gray-NH90L

SI type:

off black-NH83L
fair blue-B49L

SI 4WS type:

off black-NH83L
fair blue-B49L

Re: 88 Prelude 4WS back on the road

WOW, you guys sure know a lot about 3rd gen Preludes! Maybe it is just a bad camera, to me it is more blue then off black. I'm not sure what colors the interiors came in, so if there was not a dark blue then maybe it is their off black. The passenger side mirror was replaced by PO to a manual one. The wires are still their for the old one. Also on the alarm I had no controller for it, so I removed it to get it started. The stereo was also replaced at some point. I asked the wife about the interior color and she said the dash and plastic is black and carpet and seats are a med to dark blue.

Re: 88 Prelude 4WS back on the road

If the dash is black, then your interior is faded off black color code NH83L. In the right door jam by the sticker you will find a white sticker with the interior color code if you ever need it.
