Automatic Transmisson Fluid Change

I bought 4L of Honda ATF DW-1 Automatic Transmission Fluid From Honda a year ago but never got a chance to change it on the thirdgen prelude.

Is ATF DW-1 suited for 3rd gen auto transmissions?
My question was that after draining the fluid where do I fill the new fluid through? couldn't find anything in the manual i supposed through the dipstick?

Thanks

Re: Automatic Transmisson Fluid Change

I can't really say if that fluid is compatible with your transmission or not. But I can tell you that the owner's manual calls for Dexron or Dexron II ATF. You should contact Honda and ask them about the compatibility of the fluid you have.

Also, I have never owned a 3rd gen with an auto gear box so I can't say first hand. The owner's manual shows the dipstick and what appears to possibly be a filler cap. But you can't go wrong by filling it through the dipstick hole.

Yes there is a yellow dipstick on the transmission on top.Sometimes it's tricky just to reach it. Hope you have a long skinny flexible funnel tube!

Re: Automatic Transmisson Fluid Change

I hooked a turkey baster to a tranny funnel for maintenance adding.
But there is a bolt next to the dipstick you can remove for bulk filling.

^^ DW-1 is the upgrade from the old stuff. It'll work fine.

^^ modified filler

^^ also attached an Accord dipstick to the prelude level checker.

Re: Automatic Transmisson Fluid Change

It's next to the dipstick on the top if memory serves. Hinding all deep down in the shadows of the 3g Honda Prelude abyss...
You'll know what I mean by abyss when you have to chase a coolant leak and it's either an idle related or other small hose.
