Airintake Manifold?

I am looking to upgrade my airintake manifold from the stock one to one with higher performance. I looked at skunk2 and a few other brands but none of them seem to have anything for the b20a5. I would greatly appreciate any info and/or helpful links.

I've searched the Google and the resource guide here but didn't find anything. I also got in contact with skunk2 and they said "The Pro Series we offer a LS/B20 manifold" and I've looked through all of there pro series intakes and didn't find it, but I don't really understand what a LS/b20 is so there's that.
Much thanks.

Re: Airintake Manifold?

Possibly an LS integra b20 motor is what they meant.

Re: Airintake Manifold?

Hi-po parts for the 3g never really developed and 15 years later, what was aint no more.

Folks went H22 instead.
But I think if you have the dough there are turbo options available still.

Re: Airintake Manifold?

Yeah there are no aftermarket intake manifolds available now for the 3rd gen Prelude. We have the bastard "b" series engines. Your only option for a non-stock intake manifold would be custom.

Re: Airintake Manifold?

I found the skunk2 intake it mounts to Acura B18A1, B1Honda B20B, Z. I am assuming that since the b20a is not included that it does just bolt on correct?

I will eventually go turbo but it's not my main focus right now. Wheels are next, because not having a complete set bugs me.

For a custom intake would I need to buy skunk2's intake and take it to a shop or just bring the old one and have the do what they do to increase the preformance? Also are there any shops in WA that you would recommend?

Like I said, we have the bastard "b" series engine. It's not like the other Honda "b" series engines. An intake manifold for one of those other "b" series engines won't work with your b20a5. I don't any shops in to recommend in WA. I do all my own work, LOL. Where in WA are you located?

Mike suggested that you might look into porting your intake manifold. Be very careful if you go this route, as you can easily make things worse and actually decrease the power you have now. There is information on porting your IM and head over on preludepower.com, in the FAQ sticky of the 3rd gen forum.

I'm going to second what Mike said about looking at the prelude3g site. Lots of great info there. There's also a lot of great information on preludepower.com if you don't mind sifting through the bs over there.

Re: Airintake Manifold?

But if I do the H22 swap then I would have to get a new dd and find a place to keep the lude. I am also going to be finding a new living situation so I will be low on the fun money. Maybe someday but right now it's not possible. :(

Prelude3g is awesome thanks for sharing!

I live in the Everett/Marysville area, but frequent Bellingham, Anacortes and Lynnwood.

Re: Airintake Manifold?

Mike when I joined pp I only had access to a very limited amount of info. Maybe there's an archive we can tap into that I just don't know how to? Is it a post count thing perhaps? Gotta be a donor to get 100% access maybe?

All I know was there was only like 3 pages of stuff for the 3g section and it says 29k members when I log in. I don't go there much for those reasons.

But googling brings up a ton of how to stuff there.

Re: Airintake Manifold?

An H22 swap would be great, but not if it's your daily driver unless you first collect everything you'll need for the swap and do it on a weekend. Even then, I would be hesitant to do that if it's your only car right now. You always run into unexpected problems when doing a project like that. I suggest you do a lot of research before you start anything. Decide what your goals are and spend wisely towards that goal.

You have full access once you join. You don't have to become a donor to have access. The 3rd gen forum isn't as active as it used to be over there. By default, it will only show posts from the last two days, so you may only see a handful of threads. You can change that in the Display Options near the bottom of the page. And the FAQ stickiy at the top of the 3rd gen forum is very useful as well. Even more so than prelude3g.com (because that site is linked there along with all of the other useful links). And of course the search feature is very useful too.

Re: Airintake Manifold?

Well due to new breaks, rotors, the air intake gasket set, and new non-leaking hoses the whole upgrade idea went out the window with a very loud smas. As well as my wallet and the majority of its content.

Still looking over the prelude3g site for advice and fixes so super thanks for that wonderfull resource.

I've now moved on to getting my new set of wheels, finally a whole set of rims, painted and with tires. So excited!
Much love,
Ethan

I learned stuff at Prelude3g I didn't even know was wrong. lol.

Fix for the wobbly mirror? Who'da thunk it.

Yeah, the maintenance of these cars is paramount and as you just learned...expen$ive. But a few hundred $ once every 10 years vs $500/ month payments? For the junk they call cars today?

Hahaha, okay...if you say so. Don't get me wrong, I love older cars. I've owned them for most of my life. But I've reached the point in my life where I don't want to have to constantly be working on them to keep them in top condition.

I get that.

But the purist in this guy finds anything under $50k these days weak attempts to pull in the masses with gimmicks and very little actual innovation.

And when 4 of the top 20 cool cars of the day are not even cars, it makes my point.
The Ford ST thing is about the only one that doesn't make me wanna yawn...and I think that's because of my other vehicles all being Fords...

In the 80's the only '80's' vehicle I owned to sport around in was an 84 t-bird...because my dad sold me his real cheap...I drove 60's/70's vehicles until the 90's (cept for the t-bird for about a year). Same applies now. And I dam sure don't want eco-boost or any other engine that I cannot see 6" past the top of the motor without spending 30 minutes removing stuff.

You're not a truck guy huh? I don't agree with that assessment. New cars do have a lot of innovation in both safety and performance. Not sure why he is saying that. The list is 20 best cars, not 20 coolest cars.

I've only owned one Ford in the 39 vehicles I've owned in my life (86 Mercury Cougar). I really liked that car, but I haven't been impressed with Fords in general. I will say that I looked at the Focus ST when I was shopping for a new car. I also looked at the Mazdaspeed3 (now discontinued). But I don't want fwd in a performance car. It kind of defeats the purpose. I needed a year-round car, so Subaru's Symetrical AWD system appealed to me. I was also impressed with the new WRX's twin scroll turbo, which greatly reduced turbo lag that previous generations suffered from. Modern cars have advanced far beyond that 72 Honda you posted a link to. Don't rely on one guy's opinion. Try driving them before you slam them.

I'm not trying to convince you to buy a brand new car. You obviously have your opinion and I have mine. Like I said before, I love old cars. My first car was a 66 Chevelle Malibu. Nothing special. 283 with a 2 speed powerglide trans. But no car I have ever owned means as much to me as that first car meant to me.

I also miss the days that when you opened up the hood you saw the engine. Now when you open the hood you see a bunch of plastic covers. I guess I'm willing to live with that. I am kind of wondering why you are such a big Honda fan though. Any time I needed to work on my 3rd gen it seemed that I had to remove a lot of things to get to what I actually needed to work on because of the lack of room in the engine bay. Just sayin'.

Re: Airintake Manifold?

Well being you hale from a land where the gay tree hugger is the conservative thinker, while I hale from a land they call it toothbrush not teethbrush for valid reason, of course our views will differ...even if we lived next door that would likely be the case.

I like Hondas same as Fords because I know what breaks and how to fix 'em. My 3g cars were unloaded due to lack of room to work and because I limped after exiting them.
I'm not above owning new vehicles by any means and enjoy the sound system of my 014 chevy work truck. My wife will always drive the best (read newest) vehicle in my herd. But when I can't check the coolant (like in the work truck) or see the spark plugs, that aint gonna be in my herd for the spirited drive on a fall Sunday afternoon vehicle.
So I'll just keep adding oil to my H22 prior to initial take off until somebody comes up with something I can get excited about....
