Center cap news

iN THE J-YARD LAST WEEK i SAW A 1988 aCCORD WITH ROUND CENTERCAPS. wE ALL KNOW THE NEWER 1990'S ACCORDS ARE THE SAME size but the locking tabs won't fit ours. Took them over to a lude in the j-yard with sawblade rims and they snapped in perfect. There is a difference in diameter but not too bad. Painted them with wheel paint but haven't painted in the H yet. Maybe a quarter of an inch difference but from 20 feet away they look pretty stock. Take a look.

Not bad!!

Glad to know I aint the only nut on the tree.

I been saying that for quite a while but others kept saying "nuh, uh"...so I just kept adding 'em to my collection of center caps.

Re: Center cap news

It's too bad that Honda didn't have the foresight to make the center caps the same for their wheels.

It's hard to see your wheels well because the pictures are not very good/low resolution. I suppose that it's better than not having a center cap, although even a 1/4 inch gap looks bad IMHO. Kind of like a 20 foot paint job. But I reserve final judgement until I can see what it looks like for myself in person.

Mike, we're all a little nuts here.

If you have one..it looks different than the others.
But if you have 4, to the untrained eyes they look just fine.

^^This is the key part of your statement (in red). I don't fall into that category, so it would bother me enough to not run them. In fact, a missing center cap is the main reason I bought aftermarket wheels for mine. If someone is okay with how they look and runs those on their car, then that's fine too. It's not my place to tell someone what wheels they should and shouldn't use on their car. Sometimes I forget that.

Prerequisite to owning a 3rd gen, or to being a member here? Perhaps both.

Yup, I noticed that. But I didn't say anything because I couldn't remember for sure if that was the case. It's been a while since I had those wheels.

I kinda like the "SWEEP" look as opposed to the "RAKE" look. And I HATE when rims don't have a reverse model so they can all be facing the same way... One of the biggest factors in selecting rims for me... I'm just CDO that way... Um, I mean OCD...

And here's an up close pic of my rims before I sold them. Notice the "L" on the bottom of the mounting flange:

Which is one of the reasons why I don't buy directional aftermarket wheels. The other reason is that I don't particularly care for directional wheels.

What is that wheel from? It's not a Prelude sawblade.

Re: Center cap news

LMAO!!! That is one of the 4 wheels that came on my car when I bought it from the PO. From the best of my recollection of the conversation between the PO and me over a year ago, I believe she stated that she was the 1st owner and those are what came on the car... And with only 70K miles, I didn't question, nor care if it was true... Guess I could run a Carfax to see if that is true. I was also given 2 other wheels, (3 blades) that she also claimed were Prelude wheels, but I am not pretty sure aren't...

Anyone have a brochure with Optional wheels for an 89?

I might be able to find one, but I can't take the time right now. It might be easier to find a Honda model that had those as stock wheels.

Re: Center cap news

Ok, with a little searching... I found a Brochure online.

Interested? Here's the link!

1989 Honda Prelude Brochure Online

And here is an image of the available Stock Wheels I screen-shotted from the brochure:

And yeah, I don't see those "Funky looking Teddy Bear Wanna be Prelude 5 Stars" on there...

Nice find! I love reading that and comparing those pics with how mine looks...or looked when I still had it.

That picture doesn't show all of the available wheel options though. All of the wheels shown in that pic, except for the sawblades in the lower left corner, are 13 inch and were only available for the S model. Si and 2.0Si models required 14 inch wheels because of the larger diameter front brakes. I'm pretty sure the fuel injected models only had two wheel choices. The sawblades, and the wheels shown on the white lude in that brochure. I think the S was also available with steelies and wheel covers (see the pics of the blue S model).

Re: Center cap news

Thanks! If you go to the home page of that website, they have a whole bunch of Brochures in PDF form for a bunch of different brands/models of cars.

I checked the 1988 Prelude Brochure and they had a couple other styles of wheels: (I personally like the ones in the lower right corner)

They don't have a brochure for a 90 or 91 Prelude, but they did have one for "All 1991 Models" and I think I know what kind of wheels those were...

1991 CRX Wheels, or at least looks like they were off of a CRX.

Either way, I got $100 for them.

Looks like you nailed it LOL. They are pretty ugly IMO. My favorite stock Honda wheels (I have to include Acura here) on a 3rd gen would be either the 99 Civic Si wheels, or Integra fat fives. Unsurprisingly, neither of which are directional. I can't attach photos of them from my work computer.

Yup, they were rex wheels. 3 spoke were also available on the rex of the time.
I see both on crx cars from time to time.

It's kool about the pics... Big Brother blocks most of what I click on at work so I feel your pain.

And yeah, I didn't like those stock wheels that came on my car. My DR-20's were the first thing I bought when I got my car running. My second option was a BBS style wheel. Chrome rim with a Black insert. And yeah, those Civic wheels looks SWEET! I'll have to look up what the Acura "Fat 5's" look like but I think I have a pretty good idea...

With this pretty much confirmed, and while I am thinking out loud, I think what happened is that the PO upgraded to the 15" 3 Stars, and sold their stock 5 Star wheels. The PO told me that the reason she only had the two (Passenger side) 3-Stars is because her Hubby had hit a curb or something and dented the 2 Driver side wheels and then trashed them and I bet that they had to scrounge to find 4 matching rims that would fit for cheap. Hence the CRX wheels.

Elementary Dear Watson!
