Re: 1FunRyd & Chedda 88-91 Prelude Billet Adjustable Shifter

Not trying to put you down or anything, but the cost is a little too high IMO for people to afford for just shifting throw adjustability. Glws though, I hope people jump on

Re: 1FunRyd & Chedda 88-91 Prelude Billet Adjustable Shifter

The cost is the cost. There is almost dozen parts to each assembly. This is why companies never touched this shifter assembly other than the more "simple" design which doesnt allow for the great adjustability that this one allows for. It is necessary to move the fulcrum away from the stock location in order make more room for the bottom linkage to be further away from the pivot point. This shifter is the best way of doing so by using Delrin blocks. The half ball design of the parts makes the shifts extremely smooth with no play in the ball.

The plastics are a "wear" item like the stock part but the coefficient of friction between the ground ball and the super smooth Delrin is low. There is enough clearance to allow for the grease to do as its intended and act like a small cushion preventing wear. Honestly it is by far the smoothest feeling ball style shifter I have ever had in my hands.

We are going to offer a single rod style shifter without the billet center to lower costs and get it down to $300. Lots of people don't want the upper adjustability and only want a shorter throw, which is fine with me.

There are so many parts in this assembly, with essentially no reused parts other than some hardware, this isnt just a short throw shifter, this is a full replacement that will allow for shorter more precise shifts with little to no slop. The thing about shifters is they give instant feedback all day long while your driving the car. And with the couple hundred shifters I have produced I have been told many times the pain of having to pay for a quality part will soon fade away when you use the shifter. The poor quality of a cheap shifter will remind you every shift why you pay a little more to get something far superior. That feeling will sting every time you use the shifter.

Speed costs money.

I'd say 10 years ago you guys couldn't make 'em fast enough...but times have changed and the hi-po 3g aint so popular these days.

But you you have a nice part imo, for what that's worth.

That's what she said.

Tell that to Bob Glidden, John Force, anybody at Hendrick Motorsports, or perhaps Big Mike....

When you race for real like...001 seconds matter.

Re: 1FunRyd & Chedda 88-91 Prelude Billet Adjustable Shifter

This is just another part that I have been trying to offer for our community and as I have always said, it costs what it will cost.
We are fortunate to have people like Chedda to agree to do stuff for us. Because at this point we really have no other options.

For those who are too cheap to buy any of the products that has been brought to market, please put your negative attitudes away.

Just be happy for the rest of us who are willing to pay for a quality part for a community that has not really appreciated what has been offered.

The shifter is a great option whether you race or just drive to the Grocery store, you do not have to be a speed demon to appreciate an upgraded shifter.

If you do not like it or do not care for it, just move on nothing to see here...

1 fUNRD It's good to see you're a pioneer in this field. Got a new short shifter for my 2004 GTO and it's ten times easier to go from second to third.

What's the shortest height the shifter can adjust to, then compared to the factory shifter height?

I wasn't being negative just maybe providing a reason why after a whole month only one person has committed. Not saying its not quality or anything!

I'm a little curious as to what you would use for a shift boot with this.

I apologize ahead of time for going off topic Sean...Which shifter did you go with Les? I put a GMM Rip Shifter on my 04 GTO and really liked it. It was way better than stock. Have you installed a skip shift eliminator? That forced 1st to 4th shift was the most annoying "feature" I've ever had on a car.

Once you go over 2100 rpm's that ANNOYING light goes out. Hope you're not just putting around? No I didn't eliminate mine yet. Got the Hurst shifter and it wasn't cheap but going from second to third with the stock took forever.

The GMM shifter wasn't cheap either. Almost $500, shipped from Australia. The 2nd to 3rd shift is the main reason I upgraded too. The skip shift eliminator was cheap and simple to install. I think mine cost $12 shipped, and took me longer to put the car up on jack stands than it took to install. Damn, I really miss that car!

Chedda is going to offer a shorter shaft for those who do not like the tall billet adustable piece that is his signature part.

I will get back to yo on the shaft height he is looking to offer for those who do not want the rest of the shaft.

Re: 1FunRyd & Chedda 88-91 Prelude Billet Adjustable Shifter

Update to the group buy.
The shifters are now availble for retail.

The shifter installed.

I want to thank MustardCat for taking the time to really look into this piece and give it a fair and balanced review.
We will be making the adjustments from Dave for production, but overall as you can see it is a great first time fit.

And here is his video for install and review.

Re: 1FunRyd & Chedda 88-91 Prelude Billet Adjustable Shifter

Dave made a great video there. He sure can move fast at times.

It looks like a nice shifter. I'm actually a little disappointed with it though, given the amount of time it took to develop. For the price you're asking, there shouldn't be any need for the user to have to make modifications to it in order to make it work, however minor they may be.

Well its done and its minor mods.
The price is as fair you will get anywhere period.

We moved as fast as possible to get this to market for the community.
So for those minor mods its really nothing at all compared to what you would have had to do to do it yourself.

But just so you know, Chedda has been informed and he will make the changes to all future orders.
