Wheels

Got a question for all the wheel experts. I'm wanting to get a new set of aftermarket wheels and my friend has a great set for an awesome price however I'm unsure of how the size will actually fit. My prelude currently has the oem hubcap steelies 4x100 13x5.5 185/70/13. And his wheels are 4x100 16x7 215/45/16. I thought about going all out with spacers but I'd rather hear more input before I start using up funds. lol

Re: Wheels

The offset is important when fitting wider wheels. What kind of car did your buddy have them mounted on? You won't need spacers if the offset is correct. I'm running 205 50 15 tires, and I know I could fit 215's if I wanted. IIRC the offset of my wheels is 45mm, but I'm not positive about that.

Re: Wheels

I am running DR-20's with 215/45/17's and the DR's have a 35 spacing. I have no clearance issues and they fit perfectly in the wheel well.

You can look up his model wheels on Discount.com and if they carry them, they will tell you if they fit your car. There is also tirerack.com, nexxus.com and a few others that can help you determine if they will fit... THAT is the best way to be 100% sure. The rims should have the size as well as other determining info on the inside of the rim so you are probably going to have to clean them them up so see the stamping.

Re: Wheels

The offset will surely be 45mm however there is a slight chance it could be 35mm offset. They're actually factory wheels that came off his 2004 Toyota mr2.

Re: Wheels

Are they like these?...

Those should work without spacers. I like those a lot, but I'd prefer them in black.

Those are them. Awesome though I'm more of a fan of stock silver on wheels. lol

Re: Wheels

Woah! Hey Now! SH looking wheels on a 3g?

WIN!!!

Regardless of which color you choose, those will look fantastic! Wait a minute...on a dull yellow car with spurratic leopard spot repairs...hmmm... maybe consider plastic dip 'em black in time for a temporary change until you get that old ugly finish proper like a whopper, then go back to the silver...

Look out local junkyard here I come...in search of some MR 2 wheels baby.

Re: Wheels

Lol, I'm not a fan of painting stuff unless it is minor touchups. However I actually come from the mr2 forums as I used to own a 1989 Toyota Mr2 Gt which I went all out on painting panda style. Here's a few shots

I was running low profile Nexxens with some unknown ICW racing wheels. When I sold the car I still kept the wheels, I should've kept them longer so I could have put them on the Prelude now.

Not to blow your hopes Byk but these wheels are ridiculously hard to find at Junkyards on third gens since not many of them usually end up there and if they do they usually never have the factory wheels. Just one of the wheels reconditioned runs $140 and a full set $570 online. And worse yet the tires run $500 and over up past $1k since there are no all seasons but just ultra high performance summer tires online. Luckily my friend cut me a deal at $260. I'll see when I can pick them up and post some photos later.

Nice mr2! My son had a red 87. He swapped in a blacktop 20 valve. Fun and fast car.

I just happen to have a pic of his...

A little father son wrenching session...

That's awesome the 20V blacktop and silvertop are the most common swap for those cars. I really enjoyed my mr2 and wish I never sold it. I actually still go to the meets for them here, eventually I'll be going to them in the Prelude and posting photos of the prelude with them. lol

Re: Wheels

I finally made up my mind today in a split second, Was walking at the junkyard and there usually never are any wheels on the cars there, however out of nowhere I spot this Saturn S series with 4x100 tear drop wheels with nearly brand new tires and I went ahead and got them. I'll post photos later.
