Decisions have been made

Hey there luders! After much consideration as to my lude issue I've decided to go ahead with the H series swap in the INX! I have read Sean's guide a few times and plan on pasting a blown up copy of the guide on my garage wall whilst saving for the project. As a few of you know I have both the nx and the SiR (with the dying trans) and wish to keep them both, I had a fab idea I wanna run by you guys as to how I'd start my project....

I plan on buying a high mileage vtec 4th gen auto (bear with me here!!) for average 500 bucks (350 US) and taking the motor out and having on a stand where I'll rebuild from the ground up over a period of 6 months, replacing all the usual stuff and making as clean as possible, but I also want to use the axels, hubs, rotors (will be new), ecu etc replacing with new wherever possible. I want to make this one hell of a 3rd gen nobody's really seen before.

An what about the auto trans you ask? Well I'm gonna chuck it in the SiR to keep it running while I play this project out!
Please anyone advice for the project would be greatly appreciated, I plan on buying a recond manual box conversion kit separately when the motors all built and good to go, along with the custom mounts etc etc

Thanks in advance fellow luders!!

I'd rather lose by a mile because I built my own car than win by an inch because someone else built it for me.

Re: Decisions have been made

I kinda liked the 'let the old man putt around in the INX car' idea...

I think the older crowd here will agree when I say building a project on a slim to low budget typically ends up with a lot of money wasted on a vehicle that's usually broken for one reason or another.
We tried it back when we were young n poor.

My advice would be either dump the 5th gen and get a cheap, reliable pickup truck for daily duties and still have a little fun at times, and focus on the INX, or like you stated earlier, a 4th gen auto in the 5th to keep legs under her a while longer.

But finding an auto 4th gen vtec is hard enough. Buying one that's all old and given out will land you a bunch of parts that are old and given out.

I don't know your background experience, or skills or what tools you already have etc, so I'm stating what I say based on my experience and those around me over 3 decades.

Re: Decisions have been made

I just want it all so bad! To be honest a 4th gen lude is easy to get cheap here, as a parts car that is cos it'll be de registered and have no inspection ticket, I don't plan on driving it anywhere other than home where I'll take all parts and scrap the chassis for scrap metal, i just want to create a hybrid between the 3rd gen and 4th gen sorta how honda shoulda done it in my opinion. Man if I could use those headlights my life would be complete but I know it ain't gonna happen no matter how bad I want it!
I still plan on giving the INX to my old man cos I ain't gonna be able to afford the swap for another 6 months at least, this whole thing I think will take me about a year to do. But an auto trans I can get for cheap like the budgy.

What do you think would be the ease level of a 4th gen auto trans for the 5th gen? Is there any possible way of making it shift like the tip tronic?
