b20b in 3rd gen

Would the mounts and linkage work from my b20a5 onto a b20b? I have access to a b20b motor/tranny/ecu for cheap.

Re: b20b in 3rd gen

No, not in any way. Sorry, but the 3rd gen b-series engines are not like the rest of the Honda b-series engines, and are not compatible without some custom parts. The main reason is the angle that 3rd gen engines are mounted in the engine bay. They lean back towards the firewall a significant amount. Other b-series engines are not mounted in this way, so nothing lines up if you try to swap one into a 3rd gen.

You will need custom mounts and axles (among other things). I don't know myself, but the b20b might not even fit without modifying the hood or raising the front end. It seems like I read that it's too tall, but again, I have no first hand experience with that swap. Perhaps Sean can add his two cents. He's experienced in which swaps are feasible and which are a pipe dream.

There's actually quite a bit of information about swapping non-3rd gen engines into our cars if you want to do a little searching on that. The preludepower forum also has a lot of information on swaps.

What will you use the car for?
Drag? Track? Joy ride car?

Re: b20b in 3rd gen

Just a joy ride/summer ride.. I have alternative means of transportation so I'm just thinking ahead of the possibilities w it. It's the 88 yellow Si and it's getting fixed right now and I had access to that said motor cheap. When the time comes I'll go for the h22 swap but not for a few years. I plan on cruising the prelude this summer and getting a feel for it first before I dump a ton of money into it. This summer-got it running, suspension and wheels.

Re: b20b in 3rd gen

If you want to get that B20b, then it drops in with my custom mounts and I provide the Rod shift linkage service for it so it all bolts up.

So the choice is yours, B16/18/20b swap or H22/23 - F22/23/20b swap. All custom mounts.

And I provide the conversion engine harness as well.

It's actually a b20z2..?not a b20b. It was the bigger of the first gen cr-v motors but I passed on it. Sean, I will be getting ahold of you for sure when I'm ready.

Ahh ok.

We did compensate for the taller heads on all the B series motors for guys who wanted to do they own hybrid swaps.
