Is this thing a DX or an SI

I just got this 1988 Prelude for free. it has 227,000 miles on it. It needs brakes so when I looked some up, I noticed SI's have different pads. This has 4ws and it does say 2.0 SI on the back, but I found a DX plate in the glove box, so I dont know if they swapped it out or not. How do I know for sure?

I'm a noob I know.....

3gp never came in a DX. It only came in the S and Si. The only difference between the two is that the S has smaller rotors up front. Rear is the same as the Si. Sounds to me that you more than likely have the Si though. Pretty confident Ss didn't come with 4ws.

I get both. The banging for me is my exhaust piping hitting the body of the car 'cause some of my exhaust hanger are bad. The squeaking is probably old, rotted out bushings.

That DX plate probably came off an Accord and the person before you was going to place it on the Lude somewhere to make people think that it was a special edition or something. Just a thought.

Again thanks for all the help guys, and to answer one of the replies, no, no clicking noise, just sweaking. I am going to replace all the bushings anyways. Just a major tune up type thing I'm doing.

If you are in the process of changing out the bushings, you might want to put some grease fittings on so you will be able to lube the bushings up easier. Something to think about.

:Chimes in:

Welcome to the Prelude world of Automobilia Fantastica! As far as models go, 4WS is an SI option only. The easiest way to know? Look under the rear bumper to see if you have a octangular knot between the wheels and axles. if it says 4WS on the case, you have an 4WS2.0SI. The clicking... if you are mkaing a turn onto a street, and it sounds like you're being pulled up a roller coaster, that's your CV axles, they need to be replaced. if the sound is heavier or lighter , pop off the driverside front wheel and do a visual inspection (that's the trouble side)

Just picked up some new rims and tires from the tow yard. This was a racer with a stolen engine in it. The rims are in good shape I will post before after pictures...I will need some opinions.

:damnmate:

Yo! you gonna need to get a reciept for that engine (like go to a japanese engine importer) cause there are some places(like queens,NYC) that cops check your block and confiscate your block without a Reciept of Purchase.

take pictures of your car(engine and rear axle mostly) We can help you ID the engine(if you haven't already) and chassis (you didnt say if it had 4WS or not) The other stuff, as far as rebuilding, don't put money in yet until you are 100% positive the police won't impound the car. Has friends with BS engines they paid for (even with the receipt), but were illegal and had to be confiscated.

Let us know

Misunderstanding....the rims I got out of the tow yard where from a car that had a stolen engine in it, and was impounded. My car is completely clean. I myself am a police officer and would not be that stupid. I will take pictures of these rims and tires.....that is what I needed the opinion on.

I like the rims, nice find and the white Lude looks in ok shape. It look like you also have your work cut out for you on that project.

Do any of the lines match up in front? At first I thought your hood was messed up but then I thought it was your fenders.

How does the interior look?

All I can say is, have fun with it, enjoy your new found love and forget about the wife for a while. hahaha...

Some updates and problems

Well I put the rims on and the car is running good. Still have not yet replaced the struts. NOW my brake dash light will not turn off, my door ajar light will not turn off, it turns off for a split second when I close the door and it turns back on. My seatbelt light always blinks even when it is on and in the area on the dash that has the picture of the car, the brake lamp light is always on. Can anyone help with these issues. It drives me crazy becuse the car runs good, but it is sooooo damn aggravating. Thanks guys.
