Smokey is on a distinguished road
power loss

I have 89 prelude it loses power at 5500 rpms. I have changed the plugs, wires, cap and rotor. I have also changed the distributor. It still has the same problem.

Re: power loss

How many miles are on it? Have you adjusted the valves? If they aren't seating all the way or not opening all the way, that can cause high end power loss. Maybe the valve springs are weak? That will cause the valves to "float" and not close all the way, robbing you of power. Did you properly set the timing after the dizzy swap? Maybe the spark is happening a fraction too soon, or too late.

Honestly, You won't get a LOT more pull after 5500 rpm as the torque curve starts to fall off.

Re: power loss

I haven't seen over 5000 rpm's on my engine in a while. I get on my engine once in a while but I try and make her last .

Re: power loss

Most cars have a max horsepower at a specific rpm but don't know what the lude is? Even though the rpm range keeps going to redline on the tach.

Re: power loss

3rd gens have a pretty narrow power band. My current lude makes it's best power from about 3500 up to about 5500 rpm's. My 91 Si was slightly better. It started to come on a little sooner at around 3000, with the same top end.

Although I love 3rd gens, they're not fast with the stock engine. They were adequate in their day, but compared with almost anything today they're pretty slow. You'll need to boost it or consider doing a swap if you want to make it fast. They still hold their own in the handling department though.
