New alignment needed after replacing front axle?

I've got a 1990 2.1 Si, automatic, standard steering (no 4WS). The boot on the right front axle is torn and leaking. I spoke to three different shops, all of which say it's simpler just to replace the whole axle. But two of the shops say this doesn't require a new front alignment, while one says it does. Which is correct? [From the little I've read, the alignment can shift during this process if you've got MacPherson struts, but not if you've got a double-wishbone, and IIRC my Honda has the latter.] Thanks!

Re: New alignment needed after replacing front axle?

I had my car re-aligned after replacing an axle simple because it had been a year since the last one was done. Not because I had popped out a couple ball joints and slid the axle out of the knuckle.

Basically you probably will not. But unless you just had one done, it's not a bad idea.

Replaced both axles on my van and took it in for a quarter year alignment checkup and all was normal. I wasn't surprised. But not because the axle swap had been done...but because my wife cannot miss a manhole cover or a pothole no matter how many times she's hit it before.

We go to the store. Going down our street for the 80,476th time... Manhole on passenger side..I say "watch the WHAM! manhole"...on the way home, same street, same manhole...you guessed it..crossed the center line and every thing..it's like she gets paid for hitting them...
