buying an 89 2.0 s

Can it be "fast" w/ just bolt ons and no engine swap?

And how fast are the S's anyways?

Check the 3rd gen resource thread, itll give you hp/torque ratings for your car..
OR
Take it for a test drive... thatll give you a nice butt dyno..

You can make it faster with just bolt on's.. How fast is fast? I mean like fast fast or just fast.. or possibly even fast fast fast.. confused yet? I know I am.

It runs like a raped duck. 104 hp max and that's brand new. As for bolt-ons, not much is out there.
You can get a new exhaust header and all the way to the muffler. It's still a duel carbed motor.
You might be able to find a machine shop that can build a custom intake and go with 4 carbs.
You would have to build a custom cold air intake to fit up with the air box. Lowering the car would help some in the turns if you do it right with good bushings.

Sounds pretty fast, have you been able to install a cold air intake?

Ok, I can see doing a 120 in a 2.0 S. Check. My question is, how long did it take you to get to that speed. (Time & Distance?) How straight was the road? I'm not saying I don't believe you, I have a 88 2.0 S and I know how fast I got it up to, mine is a 5 speed. I don't know much about the automatic though. The 2.0 is a fun little car, you can't beat the gas mileage and it's a pretty reliable car. It's not a heavy car so horsepower to weight ratio has a golden side to it but drop a beefer engine in it and hang on to your ass because the fun just began.

the carb motor isn't all that bad, it has nice punch for a 2 liter non-fuel injected motor. If you are happy with it, try to find yourself the ever-so-hard-to-find Weber dual carb setup. That will yield you like 40hp i read...

If you want to swap motor to a Fuel injected b20a, check out this thread:

i think i'll just hollow out the cat, fabricate an intake and attempt to find some after market exhaust parts for it.

Pacesetter makes an exhaust system for the 2.0 except the exhaust manifold, They use 2.25" all the way to the back. the exhaust manifold, now that will have to be a custom fab job. As for the cold air intake, that does not exist as far as i know. You might be able to fab something up yourself. Take the filter out of the air box and put a longer tube that goes to a good filter, like K&N. 1 problem with that, no room under the hood to put the filter unless you relocate the battery and fuse box. you might be able to do a shorty style or something like that.

hmm, where did I get that exhaust again? oh yeah, it was from pacesetter and you are probably looking for the exhaust for a 88-89 S, well, it does not exist, i had to get an exhuast for 90-91 Si, pt# 88-1346. every thing work from the down pipe back, s, you might be able to go to a place that you can just buy what you want and make it work cheeper than what I did. It' looked good to coming out the back and sounded pretty sweet.

so i guess ill just buy an after market Si exhaust w/o the header and down pipe.

Save yourself the hunt for a complete system.
Buy your choice of muffler and go to a muffler shop and let them weld you an entire new system, new piping, new flex pipe, new catalytic converter...

The only complete system i can suggest and which is even harder to find is the Thermal R&D system. But you can also just buy the Thermal muffler:
http://www.kidimports.com/products.asp?catid=27&page=2

and again, look for the weber dual carbs...that is the best bang for the buck mod you can do for a Carb'ed Prelude. Fo Rilly

oh yeah, I also heard of a getting a new cam but since I'm getting rid of my 2.0, I didn't bother to look for a source on one. If you could get a new cam and change the air flow into the intake (new webers like Prelude13 said) that would be a screaming carbed engine.

Hahahaha, ok I have a thought now, see if you can get a custom intake manifold that will allow a Holley 4 barrel carb to fit on it, then you could really make it scream. You would be able to change jets and cams in it then.

Ok, I'm back down from the clouds now, either enjoy what you have (2.0) or yank that pos and drop a new engine in it.
