road trip

We just got back from a trip to Arkansas (about 320 Miles each way) and since only a few of us could go (myself and two of the boys), I decided to take the Lude. She performed beautifully. This is our 1st road trip since I bought and overhauled the 90 Si. The only issue I noted was this. Since we took I-400, which is a two lane, we had to pass people quite often. Each time i would pass, i would drop into 4th and nail it, then shift to 5th to complete the transaction. By the time i would get merged in again, I would look down only to see the speedo in the 90 to 95 range. The car was so smooth about it all, that I would not realise how fast we were going. I realise most of you think nada of this, but I generally stay within 10 mph of the posted limits. and she really don't like to give up the speed. Someday, I would love to open her up all the way. ( I confess, I am probably the geezer of this forum, but Im not saying how old)

My totally unfixed Lude scares me beyond 80 right now. The suck butt tires that came on it plus God only knows how far out of true the front end/tires/wheels are. I'm skeered at much speed. Sawblades plus new tires in about a month should cure my ails.

I did get two new tires and allignment just before we left, and had changed out the ball joints and steering tie rods recently, but no other repairs to that section.

having done post trip calculations of my gas milage, as well as of the subsequent tanks, I seem to be averaging 25 to 27 mpg city and 28 highway. I now have around 2K miles since the overhaul on the B20A5, and am wondering about how long the break in period is and if I can expect the milage to get better? Also, any good sugestions on improving my MPG? And I dont lead foot it all the time.
