Who is O and why are they looking for parts for your 88?

Are you looking for stock parts or aftermarket parts? Please be more specific and we can better answer your question. There's not much aftermarket support, and most of the stock parts have been discontinued. But one of us may have the parts you are looking for if you don't mind used parts.

I doubt any of them can to be honest. The only thing that we know OJ can drive is a Ford Bronco...LOL. (I know, it wasn't actually OJ driving it during the infamous "chase")

Being a recycled teenager has some advantages.

Waited until same bat time on same bat channel to see if the caped crusader escaped the snare of the riddler.
Have seen the country go from the wonder years to the simpsons.
Bell bottom jeans in fashion outta fashion back in fashion.
Pot go from a cooking utensil to a (now) legal substance replacing tobacco as the favorite thing to smoke.
Tv's go from a piece of furniture that worked sometimes, to cable ready 20" to wall size you carry with one hand
And cars used to last 4-5 years or 100k miles if you got a good one, now a quarter million miles is normal.
I saw hot wheels cars go from made in england, to japan, then malaysia (where ever that is) to china.
And now we drive one.

Us crumudgens have seen a lot of changes.

I am about 7 months ahead of you in getting my 89 Si "restored" or "Road-Ready" if you will. So I can tell you that there are parts available for almost everything that needs to be replaced.

I had to replace a piston, rings, my cylinder head, brake rotors & pads. My speedometer and gas gauge didn't work and my tach was reading about 1.3K RPM off. I was able to fix my speedo and my tach needle just needed to be adjusted. Still working on getting my fuel level to register. (Narrowed it down to the Fuel Level Sending Unit in the tank)

An engine swap (Meaning swapping in a different engine than what came in your car) is a BIG TASK... Pulling your stock engine/transmission and putting it back in is a task within itself. It can be done, not THAT difficult if you have mechanical experience and aptitude. Between several online stores and your neighborhood "Brick & Mortar" stores, You can find parts to rebuild the engine and get it running like new.

Suspension, Steering, Drive/CV Shafts are all readily available too. All those are next on my To-Do list.

There are so many threads on here for everything that you might need to fix, and I am SURE that there is maybe 1 or 2 issues TOPS that no one has found the solution for, or maybe they just never posted the solution on here.

Take some time to learn the "Advanced Search" function. You can use it to search for parts, issues, etc in ONLY the 3rd GEn so you can weed out all the other models.

So, with this said... What is (Or Isn't) wrong with your car! Depending on how long it's been sitting, it may be easier to just tell us what IS working! LOL!

Re: parts

Parts geeks has a lot of oem stuff for 3g cars in regards to maintenance like brakes, exhaust and stuff. Check 'em out for parts in general. Hondapartsnow.com is a company that draws from Honda warehouses. But their advanced search feature makes cross matching parts a breeze so you can find stuff from accords etc that match your car. I got my new hood prop grommets and keepers from 96-00 accords.

But many items for 3g cars is not a picnic to find. Looooooooots of time researching may have to take place as there are some parts (not many though) that were only used on the 3g prelude. Some of those differed on the 90/91 from the 88/89. But some parts are still in use today.

Yeah, I'll be getting to finding that "Nickel & Dime" stuff once I get my suspension/steering/drivetrain replaced... Might have to pick your brain on that one...

Re: parts

Ask away. If I can't help ya I know that others here will jump in. Luzer n Lespaul, Prelude 13, Sideswipe Si and others are miles ahead of me.

http://www.preludepower.com/forums/s...d.php?t=408425
^^ Tom may still have some stuff.

I had a pair of 91's I called the twins last year.
Part of me was going full on stock with one car so I found some tricks in that regard. The other was my try it and see car for determining what Honda had done in the prelude that went forward into acura and other honda.

^^ yes I know the wheels were incorrect.

But a boatload of research took place along with lots of hours in junkyards with camera and tape measure in the tool bag.

I gave them to my son who has moth balled the black one and sold the red one to a youngster who has been showing it lots of love.

^^ black one until (hopefully) spring 015?
I returned my attention to a 97 I had been restoring in 012 and early 013.

^^ 91 outside for a day of pampering. 97 project was resumed after helping my son swap a motor in his 2001.

Re: parts

Just looked. There are 4 pull-a-parts in your state believe it or not. Guess Corpus and El Paso are out of the question. But they're great for stock replacement parts like fenders and interior stuff and dirt cheap. You gotta pull it though. Or maybe local j-yards.New stuff like struts and bushings..... I'd go somewhere else like the internet or an auto store.

Sorry, I was just having fun with the whole O thing.

Honestly, by far my best source for parts has been my two local junkyards. My lude was totalled when I bought it. So I used to go to junkyards at least once a month and look for anything I could find that was in better shape than what was on my car. I've swapped out the entire interior, twice. I've also swapped out the interior trunk pieces. All of the upper and lower control arms I'm using now came from the junkyards. Both front fenders, driver side door, trunk lid, rear bumper, and tail lights all came from there as well. And lots of smaller parts. Almost every part came from a junkyard.

My main point is you'll have a hard time finding new parts for 3rd gens. But you can have a very nice car with recycled or reconditioned parts, so don't rule them out. It takes a lot of effort (and some cash) to keep a 25 year old car running and looking great.

Re: parts

^^this

That's how the name "sanford&son prelude owner guys" came about.
I'm Fred, and my son is Lamont.

We get parts for the 5th gens from part outs due to local junkyards rarely having them. But 3rd n 4th with broken auto trannies are showing up right regular as there were way more of those cars made back then. And folks have decided not to fix them.
