rear toe bushing or control arm

The thread title you read is what was supplimented for lack of space. The actual thread title is: ffffffffffffffffffffffuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu uuuuuuuuuu

I brought the car in for an alignment and the mechanic got stock on a frozen rear toe bolt. He said at this point he could not go further without a bushing or control arm on hand because he needs to use a torch or hacksaw to bring off that bolt. He called me today saying he could not find this piece anywhere. This was not to my surprise as I had previously learned these parts have become discontinued. He told me he would go ahead with the job if I could source the parts for it.

Now is this it for the car as far as basic restoration? Am I now commissioned on treasure hunt for this seemingly rare part?

Dramatics aside I am not sure what to do. I can search online, ebay, Craigslist, this forum and the junk yard. But is that it? I am only pessimistic because I read about this in another thread and seems it only was resolved with some good luck?

Re: rear toe bushing or control arm

Car-part.com is a worldwide used parts source.
Roadkillcustoms.com has every junkyard in your state (and the other 49) listed if it's registered on their site.
If your local yard isn't listed, tell 'em about roadkill.

Best of luck.

Re: rear toe bushing or control arm

is there another name for rear toe bushing or would I have to buy a whole control arm at this point? I am asking because I can only find an option for control arm in the site's drop down menu.

Re: rear toe bushing or control arm

I went on ebay and found these results. Since I haven't really seen the part for myself. could this be it? and if so, which should I go for?

Suspension Control Arm Bushing Genuine Fits 1988 1991 Honda Prelude | eBay

SuperPro Rear Lower Control Arm Bushings Inner Position Honda Prelude 1988 1991 | eBay

I don't want to pick up the wrong thing..

thanks

Re: rear toe bushing or control arm

Anyone? I tried looking at diagrams but all they describe these parts as is bushings. The weather hasn't been ideal lately for me to jack the car up and look underneath for myself.

Re: rear toe bushing or control arm

Has anyone else been in this position?

I went under the car today and gained a better understanding of what I was looking at in the diagrams. Though the diagrams list both lower control arm bushings simply as bushings, I did not realize there was two kinda on each back wheel that are almost parallel to each other. And since the only written difference in both the links I described is the one word, "inner". It leads me to guess that that is not the one as the toe bolt is on the outer most arm from the center of the vehicle.

My second question now is, should I also pick up a control arm to have on hand? Or should the tech really not need it even if he is going to destroy that bolt with a torch or a hacksaw.

Is it the outer lower control arm bushing or the inner lower control arm bushing?
Be specific.

I can't get under just yet, but I'll upload some pictures from diagrams. When I get home I can get under there again and snap a photo to upload. Let me know if these diagrams shed some light.

Re: rear toe bushing or control arm

i just did this begining of summer or something. bought the contral arm off craigslist with the bushing, hacked the old one off the car ( what a suprise the bolt was seized in the bushing) slapped it on (horribly out of alignment) and drove and got her adjusted fo free because they did 3/4 tires already. Long story short, buy a used one off ebay for 45 bucks

Re: rear toe bushing or control arm

I mean, I wasn't feeling like popping the bushing out (very lazy) so I did what typical civic and teggy owners do and swap the entire arm out. Saves you a lot of time

That sounds interesting. Maybe I'll have to do that. But I just suspect that the ball joint I'll get with that control arm will be ****. Would you know what that bushing would look like if I showed you a picture?

i doubt you need to buy the bushing though. the lca comes with the bushing so you don't even have to press ish out. Also, make sure you need the driver side rear and not passenger side

Wait Wait wait, My celebration may have been early. I realize there is a disclaimer on the sellers page saying that some parts are stock photos and may not reflect what your getting. However the photo looks like an actual picture of a control arm and has tag on it that says "prelude" but that control arm is different from what I am looking for. If I get what I pay for then thats what I am looking for. If I get whats in that picture then that is the wrong item. Im only being so specific because I realize there is two control arms on each side..

And bought. Eta is in 5 days. Picked up off of ebay for ten dollars cheaper than the msrp with shipping included, ca ching. It won't let me give you a rep again :/

Now I'm debating wither I should put these on myself. I have a feeling the guys at firestone might back away from doing it for me because I think it is outside their scope. If I get these shiny blue things it will be like toys. But I cant get that toe bolt off myself :/. I would need a reciprocating saw or something.

Re: rear toe bushing or control arm

Many shops would be willing to replace those and align the car for you. Just make sure you inform them that you're waning them to install aftermarket parts when making the appointment. Their warranty will not cover the aftermarket parts of course.

Re: rear toe bushing or control arm

I wanted to and in a way I am glad I didn't. Because I had the rear frozen toe bolt and in an different thread the final advicd was I should let a pro remove that, and it may have been good advice. Given I didnt have the same tools as the mechanic, and it took them long enough to take that bolt of with torches and cutters and air hammers and slamming noises. In the end I am slightly disappointed, the car still vibrates at the wheel slightly at low speedz and on the highway even more so with speeds greater then 60 which is slightly annoying. I think this is due to the mechanic still thinking the caster can't be adjusted. I told him I knew there was a way and that I would have to return to him when I went back to my other thread to dig it up.he also did something in inverse from the linked tutorial by putting the washers underneath the ball joint. I know the washers were for spacing so I wonder how much that matters, I mentioned it to him but he said he needed it on the bottom. Also we didn't use the short spacers that came with the kit, I didn't see them anywhere used on the control arm in the tutorial, just the bigger ones. I attached a picture of my alignment reads, if anyone is familiar with these things, can it explain this annoying shaking? I understand she is pushing into antiquity but I didnt expect this kind of feed back unless my speed peaked over 100 which was not the case.
