My new Lude (pics) + throttle problem

Hi guys,

I bought a new '89 Lude a few weeks back. Very good mechanical condition with logbooks except for a slightly worn clutch. 205,000ks (128,000 miles). I will take some better pics shortly.

I did notice one thing when driving her - very occasionally (about once every 2 hours of driving) the throttle would stop responding and the revs would die. I soon discovered that this could be immediately corrected by taking my foot off the pedal for a second and reapplying pressure gently. The first couple of times it happened I just jammed on more throttle and the car either didnít respond or began bunny-hopping forward. It happened in various gears.

I donít have much mechanical knowledge and thought this was due to the old clutch, and the gear having disengaged partially or completely.

I took the car to a good mechanic and had a full service and check and the following parts installed:
Exedy clutch kit
Fidanza aluminium flywheel
Gates Racing kevlar timing belt
VMS adjustable cam gears (not adjusted yet)

The car now drives really well, very smooth, perfect idle etc. However, on the way home from work yesterday and on the way to work today, the throttle problem reappeared. Again, it went away immediately after taking my foot off the pedal for a second and reapplying pressure gently.

So, I was wondering if anybody has ever had a similar problem or might know what is going on?

Thanks all!!

Congrats on the car. Good score!!

I had a 91 do what yours is doing one day. Next day it stopped. Never happened again. I figured throttle position sensor, egr cloggage or possible the ignitor giving out. Sold the car a few months later. To date it reportedly still has not happened again.

Thanks very much bykfixer

I will continue to drive her for a couple weeks and if it continues I will take her in to see if my mechanics can fix the problem.
