Ecu codes?

So, after my last post, I replaced the main relay and it starts right up every time. Now on to the misfire. I went and read the ecu codes, and I got:

1 - Oxygen content A
2 - Oxygen content B
3 - Map sensor
7 - Throttle position sensor
8 - Tdc position sensor

Now obviously I have to replace the map sensor ($314 from auto zone,YAY)
and throttle position sensor, but what could the tdc code mean? And the oxygen a and b codes? I know tdc means top dead center but that's as much as I can say on it.

Re: Ecu codes?

If the O2 sensors are out then it will make the engine run like crap cause it puts the engine to rich. A and B probably mean both since there are two. Top Dead Center sensor I think is the connector on the end of the exhaust cam. The distributor is at the end of the intake cam.

Re: Ecu codes?

How's your plugs, wires, cap and rotor?

I ask because I kept getting code after code in random fashion.
Changed my plugs, cap and rotor, reset the ecm.
Codes gone, misfire gone, and the ole girl is loving life again.

Re: Ecu codes?

^^Agreed...also, if the tune-up parts don't fix your codes, there is a chance that o2 sensors are contributing to the other codes. Don't try to fix all of the codes at once by throwing a bunch of parts at it. The o2 sensors can cause all sorts of havoc, so I'd go with those if bykfixer's suggestion doesn't fix you up.

Re: Ecu codes?

I've done plugs, cap, and rotor. After i got the main relay back in i started it up find, and everything ran and idled fine for like 2-3 min. No misfire. How do I reset the ecm? If my codes come back after o2 sensors which would be the one to move onto next? Thank you much for all the help.

Re: Ecu codes?

There are a couple different ways to reset the ecu. The easiest is to pull the clock fuse in the under hood fuse box, or you could just disconnect the battery.

As for which to troubleshoot next, lets wait and see what you have at that point and go from there.

Re: Ecu codes?

O2 sensors I got at Autozone were 28 bucks a piece. They seem to run great after a few years. Try to go the cheapest way out first before dumping a ton of money into it like Luzer said.
