Ludasaurus' Progress Thread

Knowing that a typical person doesn't like to read a novel I'm going to try to keep the typing short, sweet, and to the point. I'm posting this thread so not only I can keep track of what I've done but you guys can as well. Maybe someone out there can use this as a form of motivation or maybe even learn a little something along the way. Don't worry, most of the story will be told through pictures.

I bought my black 1991 Honda Prelude Si ALB early this year for $4500 including tax and licensing. This is a picture of her on the lot:

A couple months later a Washington State Prelude meet was organized. At this time I had clay-bared, polished, and waxed her. I also did the '88-89 yellow foglight nipple mod that Mulrich came up with. At the same time I deleted the spoon covers within the fogs to make them brighter. Pic at the meet:

A little while down the road the second time I got around to waxing her, the shine really came out:

Due to your typical oil-burning, rod-knocking, sludged-up B21 I decided it was time to swap in a B20A. Only had 60psi in cylinder number two. Headgasket was more than likely done for. I had a shop install the JDM B20A as I didn't have the space, time, or knowledge to do such a thing myself. Pic of the B20A:

Next modification I made was installing a ceramic-coated Chikara Tork-Step header. The 4-2 gasket blew out like most do. I have since repaired it with a replacement gasket from Hedman. Header pictured here:

If you note the valve cover pictured above I figured it needed to be repainted. I took the spare valve cover I had and shaved the Honda emblem off it. Had it painted by my best friend's dad. He's a professional painter so I thought it would be in my best interest to have him do it. Here's how it turned out, have yet to install it:

As of now I have only done one more addition since. I recieved a set of Volks INX gauge rings at the WA Prelude Meet from Todd (another 3g Luder). Installed them in late September. I'm lovin' this angle:

Most recent wax job:

I will update this first post as my progress comes along. Should be easier for you guys to keep up on so you don't have to search through the whole thread for updates. Any comments, criticism, or questions are welcome!

Nice car man, but I suggest you try doing more of the work yourself besides just waxing. Painting a valve cover is far from hard... it just takes a bit of time and elbow grease to achieve wonderful results. Peace!

man that car is beautiful.
on a second note, there is nothing wrong with having professionals work on your ride. The results most times better that of which you could do yourself.
IE a professionaly painted valve cover looks much better than one that is spray bombed. period.

cash you need to understand that some people don't have the time, space, or second car to use their ludes as a guinipig. Most of the guys that do work on things themselves will tell you it's because they'd rather to it, but in fact it's because they don't have the cash to hire a pro.
word.

I understand how you could come up with that assumption. Let me shed a tid bit of light on this for you so you might be able to see where I'm coming from.

I have a busy schedule that doesn't really allow for doing much to the car at all. I've had the car since the beginning of the year and I've only gotten this far, lol. I had the engine installed professionally because at the time I didn't have the knowledge nor the necessary tools for removing and installing an engine. Aside from all that I didn't have a garage to do it in.

The valvecover I had painted by my buddy's dad because he does awesome work...oh yeah, it was free too. NOT because it's too hard. I'm not some rich bitch's son that doesn't want to get dirty, no worries.

As for everything else I've done so far I've installed myself (header, gauge rings, power steering seal, alternator, radiator/rad. hoses, oil pan gasket). I'm a lube tech at Toyota and have learned a ton the past 10 months I've been doing it. It's given me the confidence and a whole lot of know how to just go in and tackle whatever needs to be done. This is only the beginning of a whole lot more to come.

Thanks for the comments and criticism so far guys!

Not exactly true... I wouldnt trust hardly anyone to work on my car.. Past experiences say do it yourself to do it right.. Plus, a car hobby can only be a hobby if you put the time into it... Blood, sweat, tears.. Like a Rocky movie.

I'm all for criticism but if you don't appreciate the way I've gone about doing things with my car this far and neglect to read my explanation for why and what decisions have been made with the direction I've been taking then stay out. Plain and simple. Some of us learn and decide to take on certain tasks later than others. No one on this earth is going to be exactly like you and think the way you do. Instead of whoring and bein' negative with the decisions I've made why don't you teach me something, eh? Man up, hotshots.

You misunderstood. I appreciated your response, and hey, if someone is willing to paint a valve cover for you, free, that's awesome. Also, I wouldn't attempt an engine swap either, as I have no experience with it.

I was just saying 'exactly' to lilbluelude because that's what I was originally referring to.

Ahh...you want to see more of the white 'Lude, eh?

She got traded in for an amount I regret to this day. Funnily enough I found it on craigslist the other day for sale after only trading it in last February.

I've always had a soft spot for the damn thing. I only noticed it until I got rid of her.

No progress on the black 'Lude as of late, however, I have recieved a battery relocation kit, '88-89 Teggie front lip, and new 4-2 gasket for my Chikara header. I'm awaiting the arrival of some new bolts for the 4-2 flange as well 'cause they backed out. This time around I'm going to reinforce it better than what Chikara intended it to be in order to hopefully avoid any future problems. Still waiting for the '94-01 Teggie LS cold air intake in the mail as well.

Update: The bolts arrived in the mail as well as the intake. Exhaust leak is fixed. The battery relocation and intake I hope to install here within the next two weeks or so. Ordered a few items from Honda in order to take care of some preventative maintenance.
