S3 and S4

Ok, it's the noobie asking a question again! I'm finally driving this car regularly, and I am wondering what does the S3 gear and S4 gear do?
I just shift it in drive, and off I go merrily on my way...

Thanks,

MizzRobin

S3 & S4 are your sports gears...taller gears that allow you to go to redline.

oic...well, I prolly won't push that far...I baby and pamper my cars...lol. Umm,
there's no OD is there? It's normal to rev at 3k rpms if I'm just cruising at 70mph or so? I was waiting to hear it kick into OD, but it never did. All I know is when I stepped on the gas...the sexy lil thing responded and hauled a**

Thanks,
MizzRobin

Try dropping it into one of the "S" modes and floor it...you'll like it even more MizzRobin

Huh? Automatics? This just raises the point at which it shifts right?

Well, I'm used to an automatic car revving at about 2200 rpms in OD going
about 70 mph on the freeway. This auto car revs at 3000 rpms going the
same speed, but I only count it going into 4th, so I'm assuming that there is
no OD or 5th gear, right? I just read the owner's manual, and it says that
it only goes up to 4th gear. so it's normal for this car. I just haven't owned
a car that didn't have OD...

All I can tell you is that 5th in my 5 speed '90 Si is around 3K. And there is still plenty of get up and go waiting to be unleashed.

Thanks, that puts me at ease... I agree. She has plenty more to give. I just haven't opened her up yet, and let her fly, but of course traffic
has alot to do with that...haha! I have to get used to feeling everything. I've
been driving a heavy v8. She handles very well on turns and curves, and I'm
not used to that either...

My SVX turns about 2300 at 70mph. The gearing in that car is retarded, but awesome for high speed runs. :)

Yay! Koolies! Then, I'm in the rpm range that I should be for an auto.
I just wished ppl would get out of my way on the freeway so I can
experience how it feels on long curves/turns. All I see are ppl braking
in front of me...

Thanks guys!

That's one of the great things about Kansas. I don't have to share the highways with a million other people. I can go from Goddard to most anywhere in Wichita in no more than 30 minutes.

Yeah... except ... except you're in Kansas. :P San Fran is a sweet place to live, ignoring the insane property values.
